A 29-3 in 44.40 and 5 inch
Hi
This is a gun I have been wanting for a couple of years to build. I bought the Barrel and Cly a few years ago and a couple of weeks ago a 29-3 came along
and I bought it. What I have is a gun with two Cly one in 44.40 and one in
44 Mag. This is the perfect set up it gives you the choice of 44 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Russian, and 44.40 all in one gun and a 5 inch. It does not come much better than that. The only thing that you need is the parts and a good gun smith to fit the two cly's and machine the 44 Mag Cly. to the same length
as the 44.40. The 44 Mag cly. is about .040 longer than the 44.40.
I have a good gun smith in great falls that I trust he does great work.
He is retired from the air force and went back to school to be a gun smith.
Enjoy the story and the pictures.

Jim,
A very useful and beautiful model Smith that should have been made!
Now that the Cowboy ammo makers are loading a modern version of the 44 Colt with inside lubed .429" bullet, there's one more cartridge you can shoot.
I often thought if I ever found a Texas Model 544 I would fit a 44 Spl cyl to it that I have.

S&W 544 To 44 mag Conversion
Jim......Picked up a M544 at a reasonable price and have two non recessed 44 mag cylinders on the way hoping to have a duel cylinder N frame in my future. They are complete and one has it's own crane. Is there more required than facing off the 44 Mag cylinder to the same OAL as the 44-40 cyl.? Is the timing effected and must adjustments be made to the hand and bolt? Any direction you can give me is appreciated. It would be great if the smith that did your conversion would be willing to take this job. Is it possible to learn if he is willing to take this job on......Thanks for your time.....Lou

I like a lot about it.
The way it shoots is at the top though.
