I recently came across a 1917 U.S. Property marked revolver in 45 acp. Serial matches on butt, under barrel, face of yoke, face of cylinder, didn’t remove grips but look correct with the right amount of wear. Serial is 44634, if I remember correctly. I didn’t get pics because I was dealing on another gun at the time. Blue was around 50-60% with good blue on front of frame, brown patina on sideplate, right side barrel with possible blood stains and bluing is down to bare metal. Left side a little better. Butt is marked with the standard stuff, Army with serial, underside of barrel marked U.S. Property, side barrel marked 45 DA I believe. Looks up tight and barrel looked good. Consignor purchased from the vets family many years ago and is willing to sell the leather Army holster it came in for additional money, pouches that held the half moon clips along with the clips. He did have pics of the holster. Price is $785 for gun only. I have purchased other WWII items from this consignor and he’s a straight up guy and has good prices on most of his stuff. He’s in his 70’s and in bad health and trying to clear things out.

And a LH holster to boot it looks like!
No, back then they wore those on the right side, butt forward.

The price for the revolver sounds a little high, but maybe he will get that. What does he want for the holster, etc.? If you aren't interested, I would be.

The price sounds about right for the gun. The holster, pouches and moon clips are worth buying: keeping them together will yield a higher value set than if separated and pieced out.

If you can get the package for $900, You’d do very well.

The gun is at the local gun store. But he has the holster and pouches at his house and hasn’t given me a price yet. He has been slow to return emails lately due to health problems. So it’s kind of a waiting game.

It might be a little high, but I'd probably pay that.
Probably not me. This is one where I would have to apply the old adage "Buy the gun, not the story."

"possible blood stains" makes it sound like it's been there, done that, but who knows what they are for sure? So you have to look at it as a finish-challenged example of the M1917, probably a shooter, at best.

"Serial is 44634". That puts its manufacture date at April, 1918. So almost certainly it doesn't have the early features. How much that matters is up to the individual buyer.

Of course I would have to see it before making the "buy / don't buy" decision. Nothing against the seller, I'm sure he is a fine person. If $785 was for the gun plus all accessories, I would BUY IT NOW.

I agree, I always buy the gun and not the story. Just relaying what seller was told but I know there’s no way to tell if that’s true. Either way it’s doesn’t sell me on the condition of the barrel finish, or the entire guns finish. If in better shape I’d feel better about it, but it’s not. He wants $200 for the holster and $50 for the pouches, which I thought was too much also. Almost all of his prices are full retail, except for a couple of German Bayonets, one which I bought and the other which I plan on buying, and a German Heer helmet, which I also bought.

from experience - and I know you don't want to push, but if you don't promptly follow up, he might be gone and the collection disappear. That sounds more harsh than I meant, but a good friend wanted me to try and help him sell part of his collection (he had 2 or 3 guns I would love to have bought myself) and his son gave me the 'he's sick today' several times. And he passed on. Collection disappeared into brother in laws houses - I finally picked up one piece when the son about 7 yrs later sold it to a friend of mine and he asked me about it (as I know Simson Lugers)....
