CONTEST ! Contest results!! I am the bearer of good news!!
Let’s play again. Winner receives an original S&W Hiway Patrolman flier from circa 1960. Wife and I thought we’d escape Iowa winter with a short trip to sunny Florida. We brought influenza B with us. So I’m on the couch, not the beach.
Please post your prettiest gun for all (esp me) to enjoy. Ivories, pearls, shiny blues and nickels, engraved and carved. Wife to judge; bribes encouraged. Contest closes Mon the 5th. So what do you have, forum fanatics?
***************************
Categories were: Niice !

Wow
Super wow
The judge enjoyed the guns very much. She had no idea guns like this existed. She enjoyed the flowers and pearls and accessories and back stories. All the guns are outstanding. There were no bribes again, alas. Sucking up to the judge never hurts.
The winner of the contest is entrant #26, Doc44, our esteemed moderator. Congrats to Doc! It was the little cub that carried the day. The judge is partial to animals on guns, as this is the second animal winner. Please note pun in title. Bearly losing out was #42,Sal model3SW.
You folks have some great guns that you should show off more often.Doc, pm me your address and I’ll send you a model 28 flier. Thanks everybody. Dave

Don't know about "pretty", but--
.44 Magnum, shipped January 1957. Engraved (Charles Price), silver plated, gold accents, carved stocks. Mr. Price also crafted the matching case. Jim

Model 27-2 with factory installed Patridge front sight with McGivern gold bead, and ivory stocks carved by Alex (Ernie) Harper of San Antonio, Texas. The gun is lettered in this unusual configuration and shipped on March 17, 1975 to the Southern Police Equipment Company in Richmond, Virginia.

While I think all guns have their own charms, I'll throw in my factory engraved S&W Model 63 Kit Gun. I added the Sambar Stag grips & Tyler T-grip. The knife is one I made - ivory scales.
My mother told me to buy "Something Special" before she passed away, and this is what talked to me the most.
I hope it will never leave my family.

The gun is a stunner, but the knife is beautiful too.

I don't think I can compete with some of the guns already pictured, but I'll share this one anyway.
Model 19-3 snub, wonderful deep blue and ivory stocks. It is one of the prettiest revolvers I own (IMHO).

Sure hope you get over the flue soon and can enjoy the warm weather. My submission will not win even in my minor league of revolvers,
It certain will not beat the stiff competition already submitted.
Just to play, I will provide a picture of a revolver in tune with the prize. I acquired this one a few months ago, and it appears not to of seen any action and came as a police trade-in from Loudoun County, VA. I don't know whether they just never had to issue it or what happened with this one.

"Prettiest" - Now that is a tough one. Since we're talking about a S&W Highway Patrolman flier, here is my "prettiest" HP that fits in this Section of the Forum...
A February 1955 shipped 4"er sporting a set of Grasshorn Elk Stags...
She's not perfect, and she definitely does not sport "ivories, pearls, shiny blues/nickel" and she's not "engraved and carved," but with that "satin" finish and "all business" roll marks, I love the way she looks and I get a big smile every time she emerges from the safe...
Dave:
I hope that you and the Mrs. get feeling better soon!

I've got prettier ones, but this one from September 1963 seems the most appropriate for this contest. It's not fancy, but it sure is pretty to me!

One of the first 44 Magnums shipped with an 8 3/8-inch barrel in December 1958. Engraved and inlaid with gold and silver by Alvin White in January 1959. The carved stocks have ivory inlays on the left panel. click on the photos for a much better look.

My entries are not Smith & Wessons.
But they are so efficiently "ugly" that they'r beautiful.
1909 made Portuguese contract Luger, 1910 made C96 Mauser.
Consider the sword a bonus.

I have looked at your photos of this gun many times. It is one of my all-time favorite S&Ws. But, this time when I clicked on the photos, I saw something that I had not noticed before, namely that both exposed ends of the grip screw were also engraved - a very subtle and classy addition to an already over-the-top beauty. The beautiful gold inlays, 8.375" of carved steel on the front end, the grips with the ivory inlaid bear scene on the rear... whew... Mr. White's work defines the "Master" in "master engraver".

Wow. Beautiful guns all. Bonus points to Bill@ Yuma for blatantly sucking up to the judge, ala Eddie Haskell. Being late to collecting, the thought crossed my mind that all of the really awesome guns were snapped up a long time ago.

RK...It is one of AW's special touches. He didn't do it to all the stocks he "engraved", but I own several pairs and and have seen a couple of others.

You didn't say whether multiple submissions were allowed so I'm going to offer another since nobody has coughed up anything from the antique era.

Love the gun and that photo artfully captures the essence of the top-break.

While I don’t expect to be considered for the Highway Patrolman Brochure, as these are not 357’s, they are my favorite pics of some of my S&W’s that I have taken.

Claus Willig engraved 1951 38-44 Outdoorsman
I have others I love as much but this is my "prettiest".
Vintage of this .38-44 Outdoorman is 1951, engraved by Master Engraver Claus Willig in 1969. I think Richard (RKMesa) is the only other member with Willig engraved S&Ws. Richard connected me directly to Claus Willig to attain verification that this was, in fact, created by his hand. I wish I had 10% of Mr. Willig's artistic talent in engraving but I do have a 100% artistic appreciation of quality craftsmanship and a keen enough eye to qualify a "Masterpiece" of engraved art when I see one.
My own, personal, craftsmanship has been in Antique, Classic and Vintage Automotive Restoration. FULL body off, nose to tail, all mechanical components, inside to out, ground up restorations.
I know how hard I worked, for 4 decades, at my Craft until age just prohibited me from doing the hard labor any more. I could only imagine how many years of apprenticeship Claus Willig worked before he became "Master" (by strict, old world, standards) and how many years he worked at his craft. Regretfully Mr. Willig is unable to engrave any more after a stroke left him partially paralyzed in approximately 2005.
Credit for photo to close friend and S&WCA member, Mark Calzaretta (Colt_SAA of this forum) who was once a Playboy photographer which requires a keen "eye" for appreciating and capturing the beauty and most "appealing" characteristics of his subjects. Thank you, Mark.

My ugliest(and only "plastic gun").
Function first. Looks are relative, If you can consistently pull one X ring after another.
I am a shooter first. Beautifull as they may be, safe queens are not for me (and I love to look at them, talk about being an hypocrite ). There are paperweights around that are more beatifull than any gun out there. More than half of a gun beauty is in it's performance.
Got my fire suit on.
Feel free to flame.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you've in good company here for people who admire all types of S&W beauty.
I think early post war .38 M&Ps on leftover Victory frames, matte finish, in nicely maintained condition, are pretty, too. When compared to a .357 of the same vintage ... the .38 M&P is surely less appealing to most, it is still pretty to me.
It is OK to admire others without being unfaithful to your personal favorites.

I have no chance here as it looks like some of you got an "A" in photography class. Beautiful firearms and photos.
Maybe the judge will give special consideration to a first year Highway Patrolman.
I am partial to this photo of my Performance Center Schofield.

Pretty? For the win!
My Suppressed 300BLK SBR with a 40 round Mag and/or my Colt SP1 with bayonet. I was going to add in an AK for it”s aesthetic value but.....
And of course Pro - NRA Cow Cat.
Both upside down? After the first photo was upside down I flipped it on my computer and added it again - still upside down?

Ok, since we're going for seconds... here's another favorite - a little Terrier with pearls to go with that little black dress:
