Crane detent

I noticed when cleaning the Triple Lock I just purchase that the crane ball detent was missing, I'm sure it won't effect how it shoots but I would like to replace it if possible.
If someone knows a source for a replacement that would be good if none are available a detail drawing or photo with measurements so I could manufacture my own would be helpful.

Have you checked to see if the spring is still lodged in the detent bore? If it is find a numbered drill the proper diameter and cut it a little longer that the free space in the bore. Don't forget to round the ends.

You should try "Gun parts corp" for a drawing and possibly the parts.

It's actually a short rod with a rounded end. I made up one for my old TL by cutting off an old drill bit of suitable diameter then dressing up the ends. And use a spring from a BIC lighter behind it. It'll take a little trial and error to cut the spring to the right length to make it work. Cost is next to nothing.
The size of the pin is pretty much the same regardless of frame size. I've also done this with an old 1903 model I frame 32 and a K frame 32-20 from the same era.

Spring is missing also, already look at "Gun parts corp" nothing there. I wasn't sure if it had a head on the original or not but if it's just a straight pin it will be easy to make one.

Have you tried Jack First? I have had a lot of luck with them having the parts that Numrich didn’t have. Great resource for discontinued parts.

Gunpartscorp has them for the 1917. It's the same part. You can also do like John suggested and just make one.

BTW, S&Ws have yokes, not cranes.

These are too easy to make to hunt for one. For K or N frame pins are in the .540” to .570” length range. The yoke detent pin diameter measures .100” to .101”.

Install spring and pin with domed end out. You can experiment with different spring lengths for just the right tension. If the yoke pivots too tight cut a coil or two off the spring.

Well, they had them about a month ago. Somewhere in this forum a few years ago, handejector posted the dimensions of the pin and the drill bit size to use. I want to say 0.9" for length but I ain't on a roll lately.

I can take one of my guns apart if necessary.

Thanks Guy you don't have to do that I'll measure the hole with a set of calipers for diameter and just cut the length by trial and error until I get it right.

Andy, I did a forum search and found these dimensions posted by Hondo44 a few years ago:

If anyone finds themselves with a need to reproduce the pin and spring its' simple. The pin/ plungers range in length from.540” to .570” no matter what frame size and those pins I have miked are .100” to .101”.

The drill bit shank of that diameter works well with one end rounded, and any coil spring of enough tension to hold open the cyl that fits in the hole.

[Folks that want to do their own search can use the terms: yoke + stop + detent. A BIC lighter spring is reported to work. ]

I really do need some coffee. I see Jim posted that information a few posts ago in this thread. Duh!

Thanks all for the help with your guidance of the dimensions and materials needed. I couldn't find a drill bit that was the exactly the right
diameter so I use one slightly larger and turned it down. The Bic flint spring was just the right diameter I just had to shorten it some.
