Default Best trade ever!

A few weeks ago I was browsing armslist as I do more than I should, and there it was a pre-27 with a 3.5 inch barrel. The post said would consider trades. I replied that a had an AR with an extra barrel and 5 magazines plus cash. He took my offer. WOW got one grail now! She is not quite as shiney as a lot of the beauties that I see on these forms, but she is mine and she shoots phenomenal20190907_095739.jpg.20190818_201319.jpg

I would rather have the 27 than a crate of AR’s!

You made a great trade for an iconic handgun. I traded a Model 24-3 with 6" barrel for mine about eight years ago...

Congrats!

Coincidentally, today I scored in a similar trade. A buddy of mine found this 5 screw 3.5” pre 27 for $1,000. Yada, yada, yada I traded him my 342PD that I am into for $550. The pics don't do it justice. It's probably a 95% gun, grips notwithstanding. Any imperfections are a mix of oil and fuzz from the rug.

Here are a couple ****** pictures. I’ll take more next month when I get home.

Very nice, to the OP and CH4.

I'd much rather have a 27 that's seen some use than one that's pristine. I'd be much less likely to use the pristine gun the way it was intended.

I would have been happy with more wear, but for $550...

I know what you mean. Mine's remained unfired since it left the factory.

There's no shortage of ARs around, but not many of those beauties.

Congrats!

Your gun has the narrow hammer spur seen on early guns. Probably in the S75XXX range?

As the older crowd dies off and the grandsons inherit the relics of days gone by this will become more and more common. The young men these days just see them as a way to flip some cash to get something tacticool.

All the more reason to expose the grandkids to the older guns when they are capable of appreciating them so they won't immediately sell off everything you have bequeathed them.

Probably shipped in 1950. With Smith one never knows without documentation. But, I have 7595x shipped first quarter 1950, also with narrow hammer. I understand they were only used on the first few hundred shipped after the 1950 version began.

That is interesting. That's the highest number I've seen with a narrow hammer spur. We think the narrow spurs only shipped in 1950, and I have only seen them on the 3-1/2s.

On the list I keep (over 100 1950 shipped pre-Model 27s) the highest serial number with the Speed Hammer is S76602.
I don't have complete info on all of them on my list, so there may be higher serial number examples out there.
