Beater grips before/after
These grips came off of a pawn shop beater that I purchased for parts. Thought I would see what I could do with them.
Here are some before and afters shots.

Did you "touch-up" the checkering points? Beautiful work ! ! ! !

Nice job ..... got a few sets I played with back in the 80s when every gun shop had a big Box-O- Grips (factory wood) for $5-10 a set..........
For a nice "factory lite" carry grip...... take 3/8inch off the bottom and round the edge...... really cuts the bulk off factory and still works great for at least medium size hands.

Fine work. Cannot imagine how you got the checkering to look like that.

Evidently the Forum server went down while I was posting the last of the photos, so here they are.
I don't know what bubba used but it took an overnight soak in acetone and some serious scrubbing to get down to the wood. The checkering was gone over with a 60 degree fine checkering file, probably about 3 hours for both sides, slow & steady wins the race. Hand sanding and a little time on the belt sander for the bottom and then sealed with Tru-Oil, and about 10 applications of Renaissance Wax.

My efforts at re-cutting worn or damaged grip checkering have been less than professional looking. Some can do it very well, but I am not one of them.

Here are the files that I use. The 60 degree for most of the clean-up work and deepening the lines and the 90 degree for sharpening the points.
Thanks for all the kind comments.

How did you fix the nick on the bottom of those grips?
I'd love to fix these.
