Default Bought a Pre 27 Five Inch

Found a pre 27 last week. When I heard about it was hoping it was a RM or Non RM. Sadly it is not , but a 5 incher in nice shape with honest wear.
The serial # is S1176XX. Can anyone tell be the date of manufacture.
THANKS

What's to be sad about? Did you pay an RM or NRM price?

I doubt even a true expert could detect a difference in the shooting qualities of any of the these fine revolvers.

Hard to beat a 5” N-frame...and an earlier one at that. Sounds like a very nice piece

Somewhere in the past the grips got "customized". I will be changing them soon.

What are the white dots made of? Paint, inlays???? If it's paint you could probably get it of those grips.

If they number to the gun I would leave them alone. Modified stocks that number to the gun have more desire among collectors than pristine stocks that do not number to the gun.

If you are looking for something different to shoot the gun then by all means change them but I would keep the ones that came with it if they number to the gun.

Many collectors are fascinated by modifications that former owners have done and do not consider them a negative unless we are talking about a chrome job done at Bubba's bumper shop.

They seem to be peg like inserts.Unsure what the white material is.Who ever did this did a very nice job. The stocks are numbered to the gun.

Don’t care for the white dots, but otherwise a very nice revolver!

The three pegs stand for something to the previous owner. Maybe they take the place of the traditional three notches. If only she could talk.

Nice revolver. 5inch bbl is a favorite.
The pegs don't look all that bad.
They could be removed and the holes plugged. A good artist could make the area look like they were never there.

A so-so job would end up looking like someone plugged up some holes leaving people to ask 'What used to be there?'

I like them!!! Part of the gun's history, so whatever you do, please keep them with the gun.

Congrats and thanks for sharing,

This one recently came into my possession. After the war people though nothing about making a gun their gun. And throwing the box in the trash.

Then there are these non-relieved targets I wish they had left alone.
