Just curious, did S&W ever produce a fixed sight 29? If so, any pics out there? Thanks!

Yes they did Don, but not many. If you do a search on this section or the next, you should be able to see a couple nice photos of a fixed sight 29 posted by one of the experts on 29s.

I know they made a Model 629 with fixed sights in the mid-90s. It was called the "Carry Comp" and featured a compensator, round grip frame, combat stocks, and a 3-inch barrel. If they made a Model 29 with fixed sights (I know S&W made three in 1974), they are rare. However, I am not that familiar with the later model 29s.

I do. I bought it in 2000 at the S&WCA meeting in Knoxville, TN. I have carried it on several hunting trips in the Scapegoat Wilderness in Montana.

Have you shot this Smith? I was wondering how it handled recoil wise compared to a square frame model. Anyway neat revolver.

Troystat...Yes I have and it is pretty tough on the shooting hand with full house loads. Pretty nice with 44 Special or reduced magnum loads. The grip frame was rounded, but it is not a standard rounded frame, so the ony stocks that will fit it are those on the gun now.

So let me get this straight, There were only 3 made, And the one you got was rounded,,, So it is 1 of 1.
I wonder who bought it originally? and if they knew only 3 were made before they had it rounded.

pred...The three 44 Magnums were made the same. They have serial numbers N153333 (the one pictured), N153444, and N153555. They were made for Dick Marble, owner of American Firearms Warehouse in Wareham, MA and shipped in May 1974.

I have a modified 25 in 45 colt.
Very very close,except it has stock adjustable sights.
The fixed sights on Doc's 44 take it to the next level of beauty to my eye.

Doc44 it appears that the trigger guard is relieved somewhat. I don't think I've ever seen that on a factory revo before. Why do you think that was done?

GF...The front of the trigger guard is thinned most likely to make it easier to get your finger on the trigger. The revolver is also fitted with a combat trigger and target hammer. In the remarks section on the end label it is marked "sp. trigger gurard".

The same thinned trigger guard is seen on the Texas Ranger Commemorative Model 19 that was produced in 1973.

i have a article cut out of "custom combat handguns" from maybe 10 years ago where somebody took a 58, a 29 cylinder and a 29 barrell and had his smith machine up the barrell and add metal and smooth it out as there would be no rib on a 58 barrel. then roundbutted, properly reblued and cut it to 3 inches. sounded expensive but it was freaking cool.

I'm in the middle of making this gun right now.
I am using a 2.5" fixed-sight 629 as the donor, and a 8.25 inch barrel that is getting chopped and reprofiled, and gold bead added. The finish is going to be black chrome, which is as close as I could get to blued.
I should have it back in about five months or so, so stand by for photos...

It's not a Model 29 but it is a fixed sighted Model 629-5 2 1/2" .44 magnum (sorry for the poor photo).

That's what I'm building on now. I bought the fixed-sight 2.5" gun from CDNN, and have a barrel from a 21TRR for it. The whole end result will get black chrome, I think. I can't find another finish that will look "blued" on a stainless frame and blue barrel.
Time will tell. I'll submit pics when it's all done.

There were some done by Magnaport with round butt, but they had adjustable sights...Very cool looking little big guns!

Hi folks this is my first time on the forum I am one of the lucky owners of 1 of 3 of what I consider the most beautiful gun and design ever made. I own many Colts and S&W's all I can say is when you have it in person and in your hand you'll then understand truly what custom is. I don't know Dick Marble but the man had true taste,thought and design when it came to him having his friend/ connection at S&W build him special guns.

Couple RJ letters from S&W.Like I said I own most all the Snakes & many rare / scarce special ordered Smiths and to me at least nothing comes close to the design,looks,feel ,the custom frame cut ,the 3 1/4" RR pinned barrel,the recessed cylinder with the crushed look,trimmed/ thinned trigger guard,smooth lightly polished combat trigger and hammer and not to mention the best trigger & action job that any master shooter would approve of. The Bright Blue finish and custom grips max out the beauty of this Beast of a gun. I have not shot the gun as its in Pristine condition and I'm fairly over protective of my investments. I would expect these 3 guns set records in the current collector gun market today and in the future. Just my opinion the only thing Dick missed was asking to port the barrel lol.... Keep an eye on GB I may post it here soon for the collector word to view.

I bought a 41 mag bbl that had been rebore to 44 off the forum 3 or 4 yrs ago. Then a 44 mag cylinder showed up here, and bought it. The cylinder dropped into my model 58 perfectly, a gunsmith swapped bbls and checked out alignment, bbl cylinder gap, etc and pronounced it good to go. IT IS A HANDFUL.
