Fun Faux Pre-war Kit Gun
Thought I'd post this as something fun that came from a basket case. About 5 years ago I happen unto 22/32 HFT that was a mess, bulged barrel, way out time, worn and tired. I got it cheap and decided to put my old armorer skills to work. Pulled the barrel and found and fitted a prewar pattern kit gun barrel from Poppert's. Changed hand and locking bolt and got things aligned and in time. Found a set of period grips, a little cold blue and steel wool and a faux kit gun! Cylinder isn't recessed so I stick with standard velocity ammo. It shoots good and keeps wear and tear off my real one. Anybody else got a fun project that turned junk into something fun and usable?

I like it!
Over the years, I have taken either stripped, bare frames or barreled, stripped framed and rebuilt them; two M13s, two 1917s and an Outdoorsman that is now a faux M27.

Cool gun. Member DCWilson calls these “virtual” Kit Guns, as a few of these were converted from 6” barrel revolvers in the 1930s and ‘40s.

HeloMt,
That's a great rescue!
The original .22/32 HFT it came from was from the period 1920 to ~1924 when they came with the rebated back strap and Regulation Police type rd to sq butt conversion grips as standard with target grips optional (although those are post WWII up to the Model 1953 model new sq butt grip frame and grips.)
Few realize that the .22/32 Kit Guns came with the rebated back strap and RP grips as optional.

Your old armorer skills served you well!
As an aside, the recessed chambers came into being as a solution to a problem that wasn't----all this around the time between the 3rd Model Single Shot and the Straight Line Single Shot when some .22 Long Rifle ammo was blowing out its rims----Remington, seems like. At any rate, the ammo folks had been to Problem Solving School, where just about the very first thing you're taught is to find out what the real problem is before you spend a whole lot of time and money fixing something that ain't broken. The S&W folks hadn't been there yet. Anyhow, the Remington folks stopped using the bargain basement brass, and the problem was solved. The S&W folks pressed on with the development of recessed chambers, and the Straight Line was the first modern handgun with recessed chamber to protect against blown cartridge rims that weren't blown anymore----kept right on solving that problem with other guns until they decided maybe it wasn't a problem anymore.
So if you've ever been cussing about cleaning guns with recessed chambers, that's why.
