Took a chance on a 1917 plus a bonus
Took a chance on a 1917 on the big auction site. Had lousy pictures, looked like it was covered in rust and bronze shavings. Picked it up today and it’s beautiful. I had asked the seller about the pictures and he said it was a problem with his camera. While filling out the paperwork, the shop owner put out a nice nickel 15-3, so that one came home too.

Beautiful 1917! Since the pictures were lousy did you get a bargain?

Bought a. MT Woodsman that looked nasty. I was the only bidder so I got a deal. All the red flecks on the gun were not rust but lint from whatever he had it in or had wiped it with before taking the pix. Even a blind squirrel.

I think I did reasonably well, this one had been listed a few times before so I talked to the seller and was satisfied. I do think the pictures were the reason nobody else ever bid.

So after looking at the orientation of the photos, I have to ask--do you stand on your head to shoot them?

1917 SW and 1917 Colt
Nice 1917. I managed to obtain both SW and Colt 1917s. Like the SW much better, but both are great shooters.

Try the edit feature. Delete the originals, save it, edit it and add the new photos.

Getting very hard to find those 1917's in that condition. I hope you did well price wise. The cousins thing is something everyone should have in a classic handguns of WWi collection. No martial collection is complete without these two

Have had the Colt for some time, but prices for the S&W, especially for their condition were out there. Still think I lucked into this one because the poor pictures scared people off. Asked the seller to just forget the camera and send me some pictures with his phone of my areas of concern. Everything looked good, so I jumped.

That's a very nice Model 1917, and in great condition. Mine (s/n 132922, ca. late 1918) is a great shooter and usually accompanies my Model 25-2 to the range. Yours is a relatively early revolver- it would be interesting to know its history. Your Colt and the 15-3 are nice, too. Enjoy!

I believe the revolver in the first post was shipped in October 1918 according to the one site. They completed the contract a couple months later, so not an early example.
Beautiful condition, and they are getting harder to find like that.
Mine is just a bit rougher.
