Default Would a reblued triple lock S&W in .455 webley worth around 1000 CAD (800 usd)?

From the images in above link I compared to genuine triple locks and for my novice eyes seems legit (has the same third lock as shown here)

Price wise it's less than half what original finished triple locks go for. Is that a big enough discount for something that is refinished?

Pros:
Is a triple lock
Interesting and rare caliber
Am Canadian so handgun prices are inflated due to the incoming import ban.

Cons:
Is reblued
.455 ammo is expensive and hard to find

From what I can see it would certainly be worth $800US to me. The stocks are post WWII but still worth $100-$150 towards the cost of correct ones. If I had it and wanted to shoot it I'd reload for it so the relative difficulty of finding ammo wouldn't be much of a problem. If its in good mechanical condition and otherwise unmolested I'd sure like to have it. Good luck.

Post again with more pictures when you get it please. Awhile back, maybe a year or two now, someone made a run of 455 ammo and it was for sale at Midway and possibly other outlets. It shows up at gun shows occasionally too, I bought some WWII era Canadian manufactured ammo at a show in Dallas a few years ago but it wasn't inexpensive. Good luck.

Seems as though there were some threads here about loading 455, you might try the search button and see what pops up.

Looks like a bargain to me! I'm not sure reblued as much as I think cold blued. It's seen better days, but there's a lot of life in her. When it comes to older, well used Smiths and Colts, I'm always reminded of something my dad says about land... they aren't making any more of it.

If I was in the market for a TL, I'd buy the one you are considering.

You will probably find this revolver to be very accurate. I have a 5" parkerized .44 Special Triple Lock that shoots quite well.

"Am Canadian so handguns prices are inflated due to the incoming import ban."

Having lived in Canada, I feel your pain.
In a way, the question of value under the current circumstances is an abstract one.

If the gov't up there is serious about the ban, and demand outstrips supply, then the price is whatever the market will bear.

On the other hand, I do know this since I still have family there: There are people wanting to unload their stuff because it's "now or never"! If the ban happens the only option to liquidate will be to turn it in to your Regional Firearms Control Officer.
If you have first hand contacts it is possible to track down amazing finds for next to nothing.

Depending on your point of view, you may want to ask yourself:
"What will this be worth when there's no way to sell it?"

If I understand the proposed ban correctly, you won't even be able to export it.

About the ammo, all current production .455 ammo is an imported commodity in Canada, and all imported ammo in Canada needs an import permit. The Federal gov't there decides a year in advance the quantities and types of ammuntion, powder, and primers for which import permits will be granted.
Will importation of hangun ammo therefore cease to coincide with the ban?

I don't know about the proposed ban and the effects. If I saw that gun around here for $800US I would have it already. 455 is an easy caliber to reload and I already have a bunch of brass.

Fiocchi loads .455 Mk II. Only drawback is they use small pistol primers.

Jet Bullets in Alberta sell the 265 grain 0.455 heads and Starline sell 0.455 brass. Good luck Dave_n

I have several older Smiths in .455. I have been meaning to get what I need to make some ammo for them, but haven't yet for one reason or another.

I have researched what I might expect when I start reloading them. I have seen a number of comments that say the Fiocchi brass is not good. Too thin and easy to collapse during the sizing operation. Anyone that I have talked with that has loaded this round say go with Star brass. Buy the Fiochhi to shoot, but not reload.

Lee makes a set of carbide dies for this caliber that is priced very reasonable. .455 looks like it would be fun to shoot. Thanks for the reminder. I gotta get going on this.

Great gun, great price, by the way. You should have a lot of fun with your Triple Lock.

Love Smith & Wesson. Love .455.

A Smith & Wesson in .455 is all good.

The only .455 on hand here is an early Boer War Webley Mark IV though.

I have both an S&W Mark II still in 0.455 plus one of the last commercial Webley MKVi made in roughly 1935, it too is in 0.455. Entertaining story on that one. I was at the King of Prussia PA Sale many years ago and a chap was selling cut MK Vis and I saw this one on the back of his table. Picked it up, realized what it was and got it for $300. He was not a happy camper after he accepted my C&R and I paid him in cash. He asked why that one, and I explained its rarity. Dave_n

The 455 is no problem to reload. Buffalo Arms is a pretty good source for brass. Bear Creek and Missouri Bullets for lead. Maybe Grafs.

PITA for me has been finding a shell holder that doesn't tear off the rim. Lot's of "almost good enough" but I still have to be careful.

I haven't noticed any difference in accuracy between the different case lengths. Shorter seems to be more readily available.

Worth is not always measured in dollars , I am Canadian and just paid more for a revolver than I ever have before , if I don’t get it now I may never have another opportunity FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE
So yeah I get where OP is coming from
Also I’m not sure where you see anything for sale for next to nothing
Prices on anything remotely “tactical” are nearly double regular prices but revolvers like a 14-3 are selling about 50-100 less than they were a few months ago (700ish)
Any 4 1/4” S&W with a nice set of grips is $18-1900
When they were 800ish before
A commander length 1911 lasts maybe a day on line before it’s snapped up
Also as you check prices you need to know that 12.6 ( prohib) handguns are considerably cheaper because so few people are licenced to buy them .
these include 4” or shorter barrels and any 32 or 25 caliber handguns

Funny how much recoil one of those little fellers pack too lol
I’ve had a couple 2nd model HE s and a colt new service in 455
The smith and wessons never felt right with the service grips so they moved on but I still have the colt
Finding 455 lead has been a chore , need to just buy a mould one day
