Default Model of 1917 questions

When did the hammer with the concentric rings cease to exist? Serial number or date?

When did the scalloped stocks cease to exist? Serial number or date?

Was there a transition phase when a scalloped set of stocks might exist without the concentric rings? Or vice versa? Or was the transition abrupt and/or one did not exist without the other?

IIRC, around serial number 15000 for the hammer and 25000 for the concave grips.

Or it might be the other way around. it has been a long day.

...and from what I have read, there were no sharply defined transition dates or serial numbers for most changes. It all happened "organically" as parts of an earlier design were used up out of inventory. NOTHING went to waste, they used "old design" parts until they were all gone and sometimes "new design" parts got mixed in during the transition from one design change to the next.

There are some factory correct guns produced during transition periods that would almost appear to be "franken-guns" just looking at the mixed old and new features. Yet that is the way they came from the factory.

BC38 has summed it up quite well for you. The parts were phased out over time. I am not sure if there would have been a memo or an order that can be documented. (Roy may know that answer, or Hondo44 or HandEjector.)
