Nice......
Saw an early one at an open flea market once with the "bug screw" , ran back to get the cash but alas it was gone on my return.

That's a dandy, and it's not so "minor." A box, too? That's a score.
Others in the near vicinity of your serial number in the database shipped between March 18 & 28, 1957. For several years before and around that era the Airweights seem to go out the door a bit earlier than their carbon steel siblings.
Congrats.

What a sweetheart! You’ll be able to slip it into a pocket and not notice it’s there (until you need it. I got an old beat up steel frame, and although heavier, it’s just as unobtrusive. You got a nice one.

Several items of interest in S&W's ad:
1) The photo is a five-screw frame, which was only produced in the Airweight version as an experimental model, according to Dr. Jinks. The first "production" Airweight models were built late in 1952 on the four-screw frame, minus the trigger guard screw.
2) The first production models with an aluminum cylinder weighed 10¾ oz. The weight of 12½ oz. shown in the ad was a product of the aluminum cylinder being replaced by the steel cylinder early in 1954, according to Dr. Jinks.
3) Dr. Jinks said the 3" model was available as a square butt beginning on March 6, 1953. I've yet to see one.

Nothing "minor" at all about that piece. It looks quite nice. Finding a really nice Airweight can be a challenge, as a little use tends to show a lot of wear on the fragile finish. Good pick-up, congratulations.

I have an early model 42 Centrnnial Airweight. I bought it s long time ago , right around the time they were discontinued. I saw the gun as a future collectable and decided not to carry it. Soon after I found a Cobra that had seen some use and bought that one for a carry gun. The anodizing was already worn at the trigger guard and frame edges. I have seen a lot of alloy frame guns over the years and I have always noticed how fragile the finish can be on blued guns.
