Default Centennial Grip Screw Replacement

I found a decent set of J frame Centennial/M40 & M42 grips. The ones with the small stock circle inserts. Any suggestions on replacing the grips screw? Would any J frame screw prior to certain date fit?

There’s two screw diameters and thread pitch. You’ll need to find one with similar vintage to your gun. I don’t recall when the change was but early on.

The washers are called escutheons.

Hondo44,

This is not correct! The steel washers on the back of the stocks are called stock washers! Just like OP stated.

The stock screw escutcheon is the brass piece the screw goes through on the left stock, and the brass piece in the right stock is the stock nut.

The stock washers for the J Frame guns are two different diameters. The Model 40 & 42 use a small stock washer, all other J Frame guns use the same larger diameter ones. The semi-circular cut in the frame that the stock washer fits in is called the stock circle.

The two stock screw sizes are 5x44 NEF for the larger, and, I believe, the smaller is 4x56 NEF.

No worries on the terms. I usually refer to them as stock circles or stock circle inserts and didn't actually do that in my post. I have seen both "stock circles" and "stock circle inserts" used by knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the info on the screw. It is a very small diameter for sure.

Sorry, the screw question mis-led my old mind to the escutcheons.
