I know I have seen this info before but cannot locate it now. I have a Tyler with the stamped "Tyler's T Grip Okla City 14". I can see no markings on the insdie and the Okla City 14 mark is smaller, almost as an afterthought.

This adapter came to me on a 1954 shipped N frame.

Is this adapter of the same vintage as the gun?

The very oldest ones will have his first name, Melvin, on them as well. Once they went to using the ZIP Code, they were still engraved but somewhere along the way (maybe 1990s?) this became a pretty faint laser engraving.

I'd love to see posts of early Tylers to ascertain the markings.

My buddy owns a pro engraving shop and engraved this new T-grip for me. I'd like him to pattern them all. Never know what era might come in handy.

Post them if you got 'em-

Still have the sales slip from 2005 when I purchased four Tyler grips, none of them had any markings. Also have some earlier Tylers with the 5 digit zip code. Add to that over time Tyler changed the packaging from boxes to poly bags.

There seem to be different markings, and different molds. They definitely did not all come from the same mold, and the copper strip is not attached the same way. They also do not have the same finish.

I have had this a while and have no clue what age it is. The M19-3 is 1970 if that helps.
The 5-digit ZIP code (ZIP == Zone Improvement Plan) started in 1963, so at least we know that adapter was contemporary to the 1970 gun. Nobody has stepped forward with any date information besides the ZIP code.

Not an expert re molds but from what I'v read tooling can wear out to the point where it isn't accurate. I havn't examined any recent production Tyler grips but have read here that a few recent buyers reported that the quality has slipped. Seen similar situations where the earliest examples of an item were far superior. Likely the reason the vintage Tyler grips command the high prices paid and the grip is the correct time frame for vintage S&W and Colt revolvers. Looks like as Pete indicated the ZIP code number is about the best we can go by to determine a rough time frame of when the grip was mfg.

A bit OT, I have one that is nickel. One side of the brass or copper clamp split off. Any idea I how to repair it or replace it?

How about general usage of “OK” rather than “Okla.”? When did that start?

**July 1, 1963… to make room for the new zip codes.

(Nebraska was NB! Later changed…)
