Specifically a 1st model, SN: 6576xx. I don't know if it would be late enough for the pre-war magnas. I have to wait a little while to get a ship date on the other side. Thanks in advance.

The only way to know for sure is a letter. If not magnas, then round top service stocks with a silver medallion like these:

661640 shipped April 6, 1937. Yours is less than 4,000 earlier.
Magnas for N frame became available I think in September 1935. Probably soon after for K frame.

I don't recall ever seeing a proven K magna before late 1937.
I would think there are earlier ones out there but are scarce to find.

One of the things that makes it harder to nail the time frame is that so many prewar K magnas are not serial numbered.

Could it be many were bought after the original gun sale as a new item. Or is it that K frame magnas were slow sellers until the arrival of the 22/40 ? Seems most of them are unnumbered, but at one time I did own a numbered 22/40 set.

I have looked at more late MP targets with magnas than ODs

Rich, thanks for the info. The 1935 date was a guess on my part. Just figured that K frame and N frame probably about the same time.
If not many till late 1937, then OP gun is probably too early to have them. Mine would be too early also. My grips are numbered to the gun, so know that mine did not ship with Magnas.

I have a OD shipped 9-21-1939 with a special ordered HBH that has numbered service grips on it. I would have thought they might have went with the magnas but no.

That is the information I was looking for. The gun is coming to me with post '68 targets and they will have to go. I thought I had a set of the service stocks with silver medallions but they were not in my stock box. I'll have the gun in hand by the end of the week so in the mean time the search is on. Standard service and not magnas. Either way, they will be hard to find.

If the Magnas on the gun are square cornered checkering, they could be factory original if your gun has a post-1936 ship date. I have a 1938 Catalog that states Magna stocks could be had for $1.00 extra. That catalog came with a price list that is dated 1937 also stating that Magna stocks are available for $1.00. Pre-WWII Magna stocks are now worth $250 to $300 in fine condition.

You will never go wrong with some Ropers...

...or some custom KB service grips:

...or some custom KB Kearsarge style grips...

... or some service stocks with a factory grip adapter...

The K-22 Outdoorsman is one of the most photogenic guns out there and looks pretty dang beautiful with most any quality K-frame grips.

Let us know what you decide.:)

When did these service stocks have gold or brass medalions? I have a set that looks to be the same design, but with gold or brass

The K22 Outdoorsman has not arrived but when it does I will, of course post it. There sure has been some beautiful guns and stocks on this thread.
