Default Round butt M&P 38

Here's another one that I didn't let get away in Bedford. I had scoped it out in the online catalog for a while. A post-war M&P .38, with a round-butt. Check out those cool service stocks. I've never noticed one of these in a 4" RB before. Really happy about this one. I took these pics at the wrong time of day, they really don't do justice to the condition of this beauty.

I got pretty lucky with this one myself. Right place, right time; it was just sitting there, had been for some time, and they were ready to let it go cheap. I guess it was just an old revolver in a wonder-9 world.

There is something special about the K-RB with the that 4" light contour barrel.

The only thing that could make that any better would be a 2" barrel. Neat gun.

That is my 1979 GS1000E. It is far and away, the best machine of any type that I have ever owned. Absolute reliability, best seat in motorcycling, handled great in it's day, and quick, too. Drag raced and street use from 1981-2004. Won multiple championships with it, and never broke a Suzuki part.

These seem undervalued in today’s market. I was able to pick up one of these with a round butt and with pre war medallion stocks, 1919 production, in decent shape recently. Not too bad when pre war N frame stocks only, 1910 to 1920 production, now cost more than this revolver did, in many cases, if they have any condition about them.

Well, here’s one, shipped August of 1919.

BONUS QUESTION: How would you suspect this revolver probably shipped in 1919 without a factory letter or a ship date request answer from Roy?

Close enough. Most 1919 shipped revolvers lack the S & W logo on the frame. The barrel address is still on the barrel.

I keep telling myself...I don't care for round butt guns. I don't care for round butt guns...

Threads like this make it hard to keep telling myself that.

Are these “S” serial number guns or “C”? They definitely look cool! Were there more round or square butt pre model 10’s? What are 2” round butt pre model 10’s in excellent condition bringing these days?

boykinlp,

My apologies for the very tardy reply, totally missed this when you posted last month....

These are all "C" numbered guns from the 50's....

As for values, I've not been watching them so really can't give you a price range.

As for K RB guns, here is a highly modified, as identified in my letter, Model of 1905, First Change shipped to Pacific Hardware & Steel on Feb. 27, 1907. That was almost exactly 10 months after the big earthquake. The barrel had been changed, along with other parts that needed to fit the barrel. While the barrel is numbered to the gun there are no marks to indicate the gun went back to S&W. The most interesting thing about the gun is the stocks are carved by Harry Jarvis, factory engraver.
