A Magna Grips question
I traded for these at a show, with but a brief perusal. My eyes saw the diamond, and my hand felt the K or N possibilty. Great.
I just found them in one of my stashes, and this is the first I've noted the lowermost border. It has that gentle upswept portion I've never seen before.
A quick Google showed a few of these, but all were noted as for J- frame. These are clearly for K-frame.
Was there a certain time period where this was 'thee' style?
Thanks for any info.

Well, those are from the 1953 time frame. AFAIK, this style of round butt, diamond centered, magna K frame grips were used from the late 1940's until 1968. Here is my 1949 .38 M&P snubby (R) with this style of grips, shown with its square butt 1948 sister:

With serial number 232684, it shouldn't be too tough to figure out
which model they came on.

Yep, they're a pretty close match to the stocks on my 4" 1953 M&P .38, here paired up with a late-40s square butt, in my photo-homage to Wiregrassguy. As my Dad used to say, "Great minds think alike....and apparently so do ours."

To me those stocks look like they might possibly be for an early Airweight M&P/Model 12. The thickness of the stock locating discs are the clue that makes me suspect that. The early Airweights had thinner frames than steel frame M&Ps. So if indeed they are for an early Airweight, those stocks won't fit a steel framed M&P.

GOod eye, Sir. However, I did put them on my 12-2, and there is the tell-tale gap between the horns and the frame. The particular gun has a set of UM's rubber Spegel boots, I don't plan on changing.

Well, it was just a WAG on my part. Years ago I bought a set at a gun show that did in fact end up being for an Airweight - which I didn't even own. Pretty sure I ended up passing those along to a member here who was in dire need.
