Terrier Date and Model Question
I was hoping someone could help me put a date to this gun (see pictures). I believe it is a S&W Terrier; Model of 1953 with new I Frame. It has four screws (no trigger guard screw). Its serial number is 784XX. From other threads I think it might have been manufactured and/or shipped in late 1955. I was hoping someone might be able to confirm. Thanks!!

I have a Terrier 77249 shipped May 1,1955. BUT I purchased a early Terrier that should have been shipped in 1950 that did not ship until 1957. With the Chiefs Special being available the demand for Terriers waned.

I did a quick scan of serial numbers in the S&WCA area and noticed this same thing. I also assumed this was due to lack of demand once Chiefs Specials started to become more readily available, but I suppose reduced production to get more of the in-demand newer model out the door could have played a role as well.

Welcome to the Forum. You will find the atmosphere here very welcoming and informative.
That is a nice looking post-war four-screw. Without a letter, it is very hard to tell when it shipped. As Toyman said, they weren't hot selling items. I can offer the fact that # 77811 shipped from the factory 02/16/1956 It's only about 600 numbers away from yours, but the shipping date could be very far away.
Here is #77811:

Thanks
Thanks to everyone for the information. I inherited the gun from my father. I think he purchased it when he was on the local town police force back in the mid to late 1950’s. He wasn’t on the force for long and after, it mainly stayed in a drawer/box. Thanks again!
