Default 1950 45 ACP Target Revolver

As some may know, I enjoy a good ACP revolver. Others may know I will be started another of my annual trips around the Sun at the end of this month. My good wife knew both of these things and made it possible for me to not only acquire a Model 1950 45 Target Revolver, but one that left the factory the same year I did, 1955.

I was offered this revolver prior to it going into the For Sale section. The shipping date was not known. I posted in the “Ask for a Shipping Date” section and found out it was July 1955 a mere 4 months after I left the mother ship! I passed on it. It was listed and somehow Herself found out about it. After a bit of discussion, some arguing and maybe some cast iron skillet persuasion, I finally contacted the seller with an “I’ll take it”.

Jebus35745 was happy to sell it and as I mentioned, offered it to me prior. He did not actually say “what took you so long?” but, I heard it loud and clear. I received it last week, Larry delivered it personally, we are local to each other. The revolver is everything it should be, beautiful, tight, blue and chambered for the 45 ACP cartridge.

I quickly added a grip adapter as that is my preferred set up for my shooting revolvers.

As some of you know, fewer of these revolvers were made than some revolver considered scarce, 2768, by count. Here is a fun fact, I own two of them!

The 1955 is on top, the bottom revolver dates to February 1956.

I prefer smooth elk Magnas, bigmtnman has been kind enough to provide me with several sets to grace my revolvers.

I have been told to letter this revolver and will do so. I do not expect anything other than a firm shipping date but, hope springs eternal!

Thanks for reading this far. Should I look for another one or keep waiting for a birth year Model 1955.

Those 1950 45ACP targets are hard to beat although the 1950 in 44 Special noses them out by a hair, for me anyway. Two of the best looking, and handling, models S&W ever built in my opinion anyway. Very nice, enjoy.

Here are a couple 45s and a couple 44s.

The outside left and right are ACP? The inner ones are the imposters?

Kevin, your woman deserves diamond encrusted grips on her carry gun...or, at least some gold plate on her varmint rifle...

Congrats on getting a birth year target revolver that looks super sweet!

Congrats on the upcoming B-day, Kevin...I guess now I can be relieved of keeping my eyes open for a .45 1950 from 1955 in my travels since the missus authorized your new present!......Ben

Yes, I like smooth stag Magnas, but, tell me what you think of these.

Curt Harlow sent them to me and since he does not make many Magna style stocks, they are special to me as is that revolver.

Very nice addition! Having finally acquired a Model of 1950 .44 Target the quest for a .45 is a high priority.

45acp revolvers are my hands down favorites. Pictured are a 1950 and 1955. The model 1950 is an unusual all target configuration.

Kevin, I wish. It is a semi-Bubba chop to 3.5". I traded a well used 1st model .22 Masterpiece for it a couple years ago. I don't recall seeing a factory 4", but I would like to.

That reminds me of my .38/44 HD that passed through the paws of Leroy the Gun Plumber...Formerly a blued 5" barrel, it's now a nickeled 3 3/4" survivor that's in my regular EDC rotation...It also wears a pair of "Diet Cokes" (right panel is a coke and left panel is a very early target shaved to a coke contour)......Ben

I hear that! I wanted one so bad I built one using a Model 28-2 as my canvas.

I was just given a new grip adapter, a bronze colored Tyler. Here it is on the ACP Target Model 1950.

It is new enough, I am not sure if it will stay on this revolver.

You are a lucky man . I have only seen one for sale in the last
10 years at the gun shows I have attended.
The price did not match the condition so I passed.
Yours are great looking and your wife is a keeper also .
