Birth year gun
To revive an old thread; please share photos of your "birth year" revolvers. This is my 1947 factory nickel M&P.

Here is one of them. July 1948. I have more but time is too short today to search for more. S&W was pretty busy getting guns out to the civilian market after WW II.

This one does not meet the OP's criteria.!
Being a war baby, that's WWII, it would be hard to find anything but an M&P made in my birthyear. However, I have managed to find a birthDAY gun!
This Model of 1955 45 ACP was shipped on 16 Sept 1955. When I purchased the gun I also received a factory letter that was written on 16 Sept 2015.

No birth year revolver, best I can do is a Beretta 418 from 1956. Closest revolver would be a 1957 Colt Trooper in 38 Special. Nearest Smith is a Model 10 no dash six inch from 1959 or a M&P four inch from 1953.

Since 1952 was the first year S&W produced and shipped the
largest number of Chiefs Specials since the model's start in late
1950 I have managed to gather quite a few into the herd.
My most notables are an early smooth ramp front sight model,
serial number 2928 (Feb. '52), a birth month model, serial
number 6634 (June '52), my earliest nickel model, serial
number 14560 with a serrated ramp front sight (Sept. '52), and a
former Montgomery, Alabama, police officer's model, serial
number, 11920 (Sept. '52), which was beyond worn so I had a bit
of work done to make it into what a Navy Chief friend of mine
called the "ultimate vanity Chiefs Special."

That’s probably the silver spoon that was in his mouth when he was born. Ha.

It was traditional in the South, at least in my area, to give the new baby a silver spoon with name on it as a birth gift. We also got tiny silver rings and a silver cup. I still have the spoon and ring. Not sure where the cup got off to.

Just got this, Model 1950, 45 ACP, Target revolver from July 1955. I left the mothership in March, 1955.
It seems we from 1955 are the babies of the forum!

Well, thanks.
Thanks everybody. I was just fine before, when I didn't know that the birthyear gun was a thing. But now I know, so I had to go through my safe and my records and SCSW, and now I also know that I don't have any. Additionally, I also now know something else I didn't previously know, that I have several from my wife's birthyear. I can't really imagine why that should irk me, but I know it will.

Wonderful thread. I don't have a birth year gun. I guess this would be one time being born a long time ago would be alot cooler, because I would have a hard time getting too excited for a gun born in 1979. If I was born 10-20+ years sooner, I'd surely love a nice birth year Smith though!

I have a birth year knife (a Victorinox Soldier) and a birth year guitar (Telecaster), but I never realized I don’t own a birth year gun.
I was born in 1963; if someone would sell me a 2” 10-5 or a Model 36 from that year (preferably with box/papers) I’d appreciate it.

It could be worse! That line could read, “…I have several from my ex-wife’s birth year…”

Just sold a nickel 2" 10-5 last weekend. C prefix that indicated 1963. If I had only known.
I have a few from my wifes birth year. She could care less.

Well, I'm a '52 Model myself, and I've owned them all around '52. 48, 49, 50, 51, 53, 54, 55...you get the idea.
I do have one now, a K-22, that several people here tell me is PROBABLY from 52, but I've never lettered it. Maybe one day, but I'm sort of afraid it will turn out to have been shipped 12/51 or 1/53. I'm just going to claim it as a 52, and call it good.

I finally got mine last year. It is a Model 28 No Dash shipped in 1960…..I can’t remember the month.

I was watching a 4" 28 ND but forgot to bid. A 4 screw N frame would not be a birth year for mr, but nice to have.

Me and this guy.
So, this K22 and I both shipped on the very same day in the middle of the last century.
09-09-1951
Both of us are doing quite well. For Now.
Birth Year
Birth Month
Birth Day
Enjoy my Birth Day Gun.
I know exactly what time I shipped from my respective factory.
Roy can't be that specific.
enjoy,

I'm starting to feel like the baby of the group with a 1958 28 ND! It does have it's matching numbers magnas, but my photography skills and phone camera are lacking. (with little hope for improvement)

Yeah Robert, you’re right, that’s just the lighting the seller used in some of his pictures. It is also in really, really nice condition. Here are some where you can see the dull finish better.👍

I have had some that were almost as dull as a Victory model and others that rivalled a Model 27. Most are in between.

I do not have a letter but this 4 screw pre 29 with serial # 1784xx should be close to 1958.

I have been informed by reliable sources that it was indeed shipped...12/51. Almost a year before I got here.
Oh well. I'll keep it anyway.

This two-inch DSC Victory -- shipped to the Chief of Police in Paris, TX in April 1945 -- was my birth year gun. A couple of years ago, I made a straight across trade for a two-inch military Victory that shipped in 1942.
I haven't had a birth year gun since, though I have a couple of nice 1946 revolvers that I consider "birth year adjacent," to borrow a concept from the real estate industry. But since they don't fully comply with the BY specification, I won't bother to post pics.
