Default Not a Collector Item

Regulation Police 38 S&W, customized somewhere in the past. Excellent condition considering age. Barrel was cut down to just past the “C” in Police and front sight relocated (excellent work). Not sure if the smooth trigger was standard. But you all can advise.

Had to pick it up because I had a box of ammo in my junque drawer.

Serial 15114

Nice. Having ammo is always a great excuse to buy a gun. Introduced in 1917. That one likely shipped around the end of 1920.

The smooth trgger was standard back then. The grooved trigger was introduced years later; first only on target models then after WWII became standard on all models.

In 1935 the 2" Terrier version with rd butt grips was introduced. But the extractor rod was shorter, yours has the advantage of a full stroke rod.

Your Reg Police model had a rebated backstrap for the factory round butt to square butt conversion grips. Your grips look like the original grips that have been shortened and round butted, then re-checkered. Does it still have wood covering the bottom half of the backstrap?

I have a 1921 RP with a 4" barrel. Yours looks to be 3" or 3.25". I bet it will fit your pocket perfectly! Those guns are on the "I" frame. Since I daily carry a "J" frame 38 special, I would probably make it my EDC gun!

What you got is a great pocket pistol for CC. With good ammo, it will be a ideal "get off of me" gun. Sincerely. bruce.

No wood at bottom. When I took the grips off for internals look, they were in 2 separate, complete pieces that never touch.

I have an early 36 no dash with similar configuration but different checkering pattern.

The grips don’t look as wide from front to rear as normal round butt grips. And from your description I’m pretty sure the top of the back strap was grown down flush with the rebate cut at the bottom, as well as the back edges of the wood grips to be flush with the metal back strap.

The 3.25” barrel would extend well past the front end of the extractor rod and the 3” wasn’t produced until 1952.

This barrel is cut to about 2 1/2”.
