My Birthday "CLUB"
Today is my birthday. I celebrated by adding another Club Gun to the herd. It's a K-22 Outdoorsman. It is in outstanding condition! Do you notice anything different about it?

Happy Birthday Don.
The "club" serial number is the number of days in a leap year, which this year is.
What year did you and your Outdoorsman ship? Was that a leap year, too?

Nice gun!
Appropos of nothing, my 86-million name database shows 15 people who were both born AND died on a Leap Day (Feb 29). That’s a pretty exclusive club!

Congratulations Don.
I saw that one coming up for sale and figured it would be quite a bidding battle considering its uniqueness, hope you didn’t get too bruised up.
Happy Birthday and what a beautiful gift.

I saw that revolver in person on Wednesday and thought “I hope Don gets this one.” Congratulations - it’s a beautiful gun. I don’t know enough about K-22s to know what’s unusual.

Bidding opened at the high estimate of 9K. After seeing other nice Smith & Wessons sell that I would have liked, I just put my card up. 0366 shipped on January 21, 1935 to Edward S. Pomeroy. I shipped March 23, 195x. 0366 shipped in January 21, 1935 and the Coast Guard guns shipped in February 12, 1935. 0366 may very well be the prototype for the Coast guard guns.

Good Show Don!
Happy Birthday, Sir A very nice gift, I might add! As mentioned earlier, I am unable to see much detail from your photos so my answer is: I Don't Know!
Edited to Add: Even if the photos were larger I still may not know!

Sam
It has service sights. It shipped before the 25 Coast Guard guns. Can I call it the prototype to the Coast Guard guns?

Happy belated birthday. Fixed sight K-22, very likely a prototype, considering who it went to.

Here is a picture of two Coast Guard K-22, that turned up together maybe 15 years ago. They are not my guns. This picture was posted on this forum shortly after the guns were found.

I have seen this phrase used but I have to admit I don't have any idea what a "club gun" is, can you folks enlighten me?
Many thanks!

Mike
To me the term CLUB GUN, is a misnomer. From what information I have for Club Guns, I think the term should be Gift Guns. The first Club Gun that actually letters to a Club is 0333. It went to the Whitinsville (MASS) Gun Club. There were over 700 Club Guns starting in 1899 to early 1970s. Most were Single Shots. I have a Model 41 that is a Club Gun.

Thank you Don! So Club Guns were guns that were gifted to gun clubs, makes perfect sense now!

No, I said Gift Guns. The first 332 went to individuals or stores.

If you don’t mind me asking, how many Club Guns have you got? Or, in other words, what percentage of that specialized collecting interest have you cornered?
Who is the most renowned individual to whom you have in your collection that a revolver was shipped to? To the average layman. For example, we all know who D B Wesson was, but the average person on the street does not.
Congratulations on your fabulous find!

Don, I'd been watching that gun, knowing you had too, and hoping that it would be in your hands.
I can't tell you how pleased I am that it is your gun now.
It couldn't be in a better home.

More than one.
I have to say, one of my favorites is the .22 Single Shot Club Gun Douglas Wesson gave to his Private Secretary Mildred Trench. After I aquired it, I gave it to my Private Secretary.

Congrats Don!!! Glad that you added that fixed sight club gun to your herd! When I saw it in the auction catalog, I thought "now there's one that belongs in Don's collection..."
Once again - Congrats!

That's a cool thing to do. Does she collect guns too? Or is your gift her collection of one?
Also...love your K22 that is the subject of this thread. Absolutely wonderful gun, thanks for sharing it with us!

No, My wife, Louise collects Savage and Stevens rifles and pistols. She also has a large collection of Savage and Stevens catalogs, calendars, tools and ammo boxes.

Congrats Don, Like others I thought you might be chasing after that one! Certainly is a really interesting gun and full of great history. I hope you at least put some rounds through that gun and add yourself to parts of it's history.

If I shoot it, I'll be the first outside of test firing.

I think I might have to shoot a box unless no turnline can be seen.
