Which stocks are correct?
I recently acquired a 6” Highway Patrolman with a ship date of June, 1955. It came with non-relieved Target stocks. The SCSW doesn’t indicate if these stocks are correct, or if the early “football” stocks are correct for this pistol.
I’m sure that fellow members of the Forum can steer me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your advice.

My first year Highway Patrolman also came with non relieved target stocks. They were available in the 1952 to 58 time frame if I rmember correctly.

It likely came originally with Magna stocks, but at that time either Target stock style could have been available for replacements.

As mentioned by murphydog, probably Magnas. The only way to know for sure is to spring for a letter.

Highway Patrolman
Mark
My HP came with Diamond Magnas, and they are numbered to the gun. It is a 54-55 gun.

S&W did offer targets as an option for a modest extra cost. I believe Magnas were factory standard on the HP but it was not unusual for an owner to buy a pair of targets. I bought a new HP in 1970 and it came with Magnas

The Highway Patrolman was offered with Magna stocks or target stocks for an extra $4.00 if I remember correctly. The target stocks would not have the relieved area on the left stock panel.
