Yes. A K-38 Masterpiece that probably shipped in the Autumn of 1948.

A nice piece.

And the only thing that ever came along to improve its performance were modifications by high dollar pistolsmiths who shortened the cylinder to wadcutter length, and installed custom barrels set back to meet the cylinder. That made the good guys even better.

As it came out of the box, it surprised everybody who had one by making them think they were REALLY good! The fact of the matter is it was the gun that made them look good---kind of like flying an airplane on autopilot.

Welcome to the Forum! You've got yourself a very nice K-38 with some custom aftermarket wood stocks. I'm sure that one of our Forum gurus will be along shortly to identify the maker of those target stocks. I've got your K-38's 1948 little brother (K-22 Masterpiece, K40403). S&W also made a matching K-32 Masterpiece...those revolvers are quite rare and pricey. Enjoy!

What he said right up there (^^^^)----"those revolvers are quite rare and pricey." Here's what mine fetched when my collection was liquidated. The first one was appraised at 95% for me by David Carroll one time when I was trying to trade it for a new in the box 6" 2nd Model Single Shot. The folks with the single shot took a pass on that deal---damn it anyhow!! (It wasn't all that bad from a distance, but up close and personal you could tell it'd been in some disrespectful hands---damn it anyhow again!!) I got it when I did because of what it was---and because I figured it'd be a looooooooooong time before I ever had a chance at another one. (I was right about that----never saw another one.) Actually, now that I think about it, I did see another one---it was as new, in the box, and $20,000. I was the one who took a pass on that deal-----but it was nice to have fondled it for a spell.

Okay, so here's what's what with my K-32's:

K-32 1st Model------------------$7135

K-32 2nd Model-----------------$3825

K-32 3rd Model-----------------$3525

These last two were nice guns---one of them was with its box---the 2nd I think.

It's a bit difficult to tell from the one picture, but I think the grips might be Fitz "Ten-O" grips. If so, they are a form of plastic. I could be wrong.

A couple more pics of the stocks would help. One of the left stock and a pic of the insides of the stocks.

BTW, that is a nice looking Masterpiece.

Here is one I picked up about 11 years ago. The gun is really nice, but the stocks are not period correct. K-38 Masterpiece, Serial # K222428, 1954 in 4th edition look up.
