D.O.B for Pre-War Outdoorsman?
I just managed to score a very nice Pre War 38/44 OD at a very livable price. I’m trying to get a date of manufacture for serial number 40672. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.🙏🏽

Outdoorsman 42884 shipped April of 1934, so 1932 sounds about right. Sure would like to see some pictures!

Some photos. Would I be correct in that an OD from 1932 would
Have shipped with service and not magna stocks? I’ve got a pair of Keith Brown pre war stocks for an N frame currently unmounted that might do the trick here.

You are correct. Service stocks for that birthday I believe.

There’s a single blemish on the right side of the frame on the side plate. Other than that this gun is almost brand new. I have no information on the “Marble” front sight post?

Yes, magnas, if I remember correctly, didn't show up until 1935. Nice buy, I've been trying to acquire one of those at a reasonable price for quite awhile.

Yeah man I’ve been on the hunt for a while too and every nice one I’ve seen in all the online auctions has been $2k and higher.

For reference O/D SN 41871 shipped in May 1933, so sometime before that for your beauty would be my guess. Your 38/44 O/D most certainly shipped with standard stocks (sometimes called service stocks). BUT pre-war KBs on that beauty would be "just right". Slap 'em on and let's see some photos...
This recently acquired 38 M&P Target shipped with a beautiful set of pre-war magnas, but for fun I put a set of KB's on her and snapped a couple of iPhone photos...
... I really like the look.

That M&P Target looks like it just left the factory! KB's stocks, as always, are terrific too, on the gun and by themselves.

Yup... everything but a nicely modified front sight...
... I'm going to say that that is gold on the top ... but most likely it is brass...

They’re such elegant revolvers. I really like the tapered barrel without a rib.

The Marble front sight was available as an option---this by virtue of the fact I had a M&P Target that shipped with, and lettered with a Marble Ivory Bead-------and it was numbered to the gun, lest there be any doubts----this from 1936.
Aside from that, the gun was a puzzle! It was ordered by a Rail Road police patrolman, cost $30 some-odd, and was brand spanking new when it came to live here! Now I don't know the earnings of a "cinder dick" in 1936, but they weren't much. The bottom line comes out like "What's up with THIS----why didn't he ever use it?!" The gun was clearly made to order for the "Long Shooters" competitions, but never used. ????????

Methinks those waiting for some sort of bargain price on one of these is in for a loooooooooong wait! Mine sold for $2200 within the last three years ending a year ago---and it doesn't figure the prices are going to be dropping-----------anytime soon.
Hell!!---my post-war version with the funky "Satin Blue" finish went for $1625!

My 1940 38-44 shipped to an individual. Same thing. I doubt he ever shot it. Letter states Magna stocks and Humpback hammer.
The hammer has the date on it and also has the grooves like an RM. It came to me in the original blue box with the taped serial number. No signs of being fired. Big Larry

By request. I also had one of the repro grip adaptors sitting around doing nothing so I put that on and I really like how this has come together. New shoes always matter!
