Value on 2" Pre-12 Round Butt....shooter grade
I have a 2" Pre-12 Round Butt that shipped February, 1955 according to Mr. Jinks.
The frame is solid, no cracks and stocks number to the gun.
It has more wear from being carried that being shot as far as I can tell.
I do not have the box.
Downside is that a previous owner lightly etched his SSN on the back strap and another etched their SSN on the side of the grip frame under the grip.
I am contemplating putting this one up for sale and thinking of pricing it at $575 shipped (without the Tyler grip adapter)
Am I out of line at that price?? I see them selling for more, but without an SSN on them. Still a fantastic carry/shooter regardless.
This is the only Pre-12 or 12 I have owned, so I do not have much experience with them.
Thoughts?

I suspect it might remain unsold for a while at that price. You can always ask that to start and reduce to your bottom figure...one of the advantages of Forum selling.

The etching on the back strap will be a show stopper for many but you might as well start at $575 and see what happens. My 38 M&P Airweight, Dec., 1954, with no SSN is worth at least $900, but I would not sell it at any price. It resides in a Meadow's glass top case with other early 50's guns.

It's very comfortable in the hand, especially with the Tyler
Yes, the SSN's are an obvious issue, but as a shooter/collector I would probably price it at $500 shipped.
That said I may just hang on to this one for a bit....it's great carry piece given the light weight. Will give it some thought.
Thanks all!

You would think if you just HAD to scratch an ID in a firearm you would at least do it under the stocks on the side of the grip frame.....GEEEZZZ!!!

According to my current research, during the 60's NASA very often used electro pencil to engrave serial/part even firearm rack numbers on many things they bought... so it wan't always bubba.
