I have a chance to make a offer on a pre 27 before it goes else where. The good it is a 3 1/2 inch. The bad grip s/n does not match and no box. The ugly a lot of holster wear. Sorry no pictures but over all very good condition. Any help will be appreciate. Thanks Bill

The serial number on the grip should not match the number stamped in the crane area which is a fitters number used while making that revolver. Without pictures no way to value it.

Holster wear is not always a terrible thing. It all depends on what you are buying it for.

If you are a collector, you may not want to pay anything at all.
If you want a concealed carry piece, it might be just the thing, and you might want to offer a substantial amount. I believe 3" M13s are going for upwards of $1,000. If you are going to carry it, it's going to get holster wear anyway.

I'd bet that someone out there would grab it right away for $800.

So what to offer? If you offer $600 and he has $1,000 in mind, he may get mad and refuse to negotiate or even continue talking to you. So you might be better off to get him to put a price on it if at all possible. A lot depends on how bad you really want it. If you don't care much, let him get mad.

W/O photo pretty muchimpossible to "guesstimate" a price/ offer...realistically would almost have to have piece "in hand". That being said I seldom if ever "make offer" on an unpriced firearm. Just me. Good luck!

I have no problem at all “making an offer” on a revolver that interests me. Just like a price from a seller that can always go down, if he chooses, my offer can always be adjusted up, if I choose. I don’t make crazy, low-ball offers, and if the seller is offended by my suggestion, I guess that’s too bad. I probably don’t want to do business with that type of seller anyway.

Do a little homework and see what the asking prices appears to be for similar revolvers on some gun websites, maybe excluding the ridiculous one(s), and make your offer based on the value the gun would be to YOU. ($1000, for example, is “worth” different things to different people.)

It is hard to make a guess on a gun without good pictures.

Anything under $1K to your safe would be a good buy. It IS a 3.5" pre-27 with exposed front sight pins. That equals . The grips are nice and may even number to the gun. It DOES have some condition issues, but nothing major.

Cool gun. I like the wear on it. Were it available in my area I would go 1200 fairly easily, maybe 14. partly because it's birth year-ish, and it's honestly in better shape than I am!.

The guns were inherited and he is not interested or has any idea about them. Also has 19-4, 19-5, 586-1.

Depending on barrel length the other firearms might have some high value too. Shorter is better.

I'm not seeing all that much wear and certainly no abuse. Where I shop I would be very surprised to find it priced at less than $1500. If I could buy it for $1000 it would already be mine. Good luck.

Around here that 3 1/3" mid-50's 357 would sell pretty fast at $900 with those period correct stocks. I would offer $600. My partner, who is a cheapskate, would say $500. Sometimes get gets lucky.

If you can, offer him $2000 for all 4 guns... Be sure to ask about boxes, papers and tools.

That's a nice 5-screw .357 Magnum, and the stocks could be original to the revolver. As you probably know, the 3-1/2" bbl. versions are some of the most popular, and can bring a premium. Almost any 5-screw N-frame is a buy at $1K. Even with a little freckling, around here that would be a $1200 revolver.

I may have been out the price loop for a minute, prices might have gone down for once. But a mid fifties 3.5", five screw with great grips looks like a >$1500 gun. Anything under $1,200 seems like a bargain to me.

A little holster wear is preferable if you’re buying to carry. $1300 would be my max, but the cheaper the better, of course. A cherry 3.5” pre 27 will run well north of $2k.

It looks to me like the front sight base has been reset lower in the barrel. Also the finish on the sight base is matte and the sight has a red ramp.

I am currently looking for Mod 27 , 3.5”. From what I can see I would pay $1,200 today.

I try pretty hard not to be too much of a jerk on the forum, but those offers are borderline insulting. The seller seems to have no idea what he has and if takes the time to research might be pretty grumpy about the offer.
This revolver (and probably the others) are not appealing to me due to my own needs and views, but even I look at most 3.5" .357 (27 or pre) as being at least a $1000 purchase.

One thing you have going for you with a cash and carry type offer is that the seller doesn't have to put up with scammers, dreamers, and tire kickers. Cash in hand, over and done.

If the seller does sell it online, he can't just stick it in a box and mail it. Shipping, insurance, and FFL fees have to be considered. The whole process could be very daunting to a person who just inherited some guns but has very little interest in them. Almost certainly he doesn't know an FFL, he may not even know what an FFL is. A face-to-face sale (in states where legal) eliminates these concerns.

My conscience wouldn't bother me if I got it for fairly low price, seeing that the guy has no interest in it other than converting it to cash.

If it was being sold by an elderly widow, I would probably want to pay close to or at 100% of fair market value. That's where conscience plays a role.
