Default Can anyone help ID the revolver in this famous Warsaw Uprising photo?

This is Wieslaw Chrzanowski, at Wilcza 16 St., dated early Sept. 1944. He was Speaker of the House in the 1990s, and passed away in 2012. [see edit for correction on that last one]

If possible, please be detailed with your ID, for instance, I think this pistol has target front sight, and seems more like K frame than N frame to me. I see characteristic SW medallion grips, but I hope someone can be more detailed and id the variation.

Entire original photo: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...2o_-_14720.jpg

Edit: There were actually 3 Warsaw Uprising fighters by that name. The one in the photo is NOT the one who became speaker of the house. The confusion is all over the internet, so sorry for falling for it initially as well.

I am not sure it is even a Smith & Wesson.
The grip looks like a Colt, maybe a New Service or Official Police.

Looks Colt-ish to me too. Hard to tell, if the grips are original to the gun perhaps Colt Army Special or OP. Or New Service.

It's an early Colt of some kind. The grips give it away.

Thanks for the replies, for some reason the grips looked S&W to me, but now that I had to do some research, looks like something like this could be a good match
New Service Colt

Looks a lot like my Colt Officer's Model 38 Special that was made in 1926.

Many New Service revolvers had lanyard loops.

I have to agree. Seems to look like a Colt E frame. Which one I cannot say.

At first I thought it was a large-medallion S&W grip, but it looks like there is too much wood around the top of the medallion. Then I thought that it was some variant of a Colt, but all of my Officers Model Target guns have the screw head on the left side of the grip frame, while this gun has it on the right side.

I'm not sure what it is.

I say Colt Official Police or Army Special...essentially the same gun but the name changed in 1927.
