A friend of mine bought some estate stuff from someone and while showing his haul, I spotted this old red box full of an assortment of ammo. I'm not very knowledgeable of revolvers this old but I told him I would get some input from my Forum Members of age and value. I forgot to take a pic of the bottom of the box but the number started with 67_ _ _ _ _.
I did take a pic of the bottom.

Your friend made a wonderful discovery of a very collectible K22 Outdoorsman's box with some hard to find accompanying paperwork. The box is in the neighborhood of 85 years old and is in excellent condition. On the market with paperwork I would place a value of between $500.00 to $700.00.
I would recommend you tell your friend to keep hitting the estate sales.
Congratulations.
I just recently acquired a box in similar condition and paid my top estimated price.

I no longer own any unboxed K-22 Outdoorsman guns, being down to two boxed examples now, but I'll be happy to caretake that one for you until I can find another suitable occupant... ...Ben

I'll take it. Looks like a nice box. That is the correct paperwork, and also would have probably included a pre-war Helpful Hints and some tan tissue paper. Congrats!!!
My closest is 137 SNs higher at 672995. This Outdoorsman shipped in October 1938 and spent some time in Orville Kuhl's shop getting cut up and blinged out...

I wish you could show a pic of the side. What is the large word in the red background?
I can see EXA---EAL and cannot figure out what word that would be!
Note how uniformly the packer placed the two pieces of tape. Since both pieces have an exact border, I assume they are pre-cut pieces. Very unusual.

I'll try and stop by and take a few more pics.
The stickers and gun were from a large hardware store located in downtown Louisville. Can't find the gun.

Thanks for the link. The company was a common ship destination for S & W revolvers back in the day (I may have seen a factory letter with the company noted), sorry to see they went under.

They went under in 1986.
Yup. That would’ve been a great place to visit, in their heyday.
Nice box, OP. I’m not a box collector, either but it sure would be sweet if the Outdoorsman and the box were reunited.

EXACT SEAL
(My best guess.)
-Bill
*EDIT: Or, maybe some obscure spelling of the above for a now-defunct marketing term?... EXAKT SEAL?
OP, please enlighten us when able with a pic.

I'll try to get a few more pics of the box and opened manual. I think $38.00 was printed on one page in the manual. I appreciate the replies. Also, I'll try to find out what he wants to do with the box.

Speaking of pretty red boxes, I was once dickering for a 22/40---came with a screwdriver, and a drop-dead gorgeous red box-----but it was NOT THE box-----and I had no interest in it. I asked for a price without the box, and I already had one of the screwdrivers.
David Carroll was at my elbow---poked me in the ribs, and whispered, "That's a thousand dollar box, DUMMY!"
We live and learn!

Obviously they never knew how much the boxes would ultimately be worth in original condition. At the time it was just a cardboard container. My how things change.
