Fair point! It’s super…..proportional maybe?
But small. I didn’t realize how much smaller than a J frame the I was.

Call 'em "delicate".
I had two exquisite examples, a 22/32 HFT, and a .32 Regulation Police Target---and they were "delicate"---almost made K frames look clunky---and for sure made N frames look clunky!
You'll be okay as long as you keep them away from clunky guns, so their feelings don't get hurt.

The word "proportional" is most appropriate. It has all the technology and skill of a K- or N frame, just perfectly scaled to a much smaller size. When I first got seriously interested in them well over a decade ago, I was impressed with the actual internals of the hammer and trigger, and importantly the leaf mainspring which made it remind me of a little Model 10 scaled down just right for 32 caliber.
Be careful though. It will be difficult to stop with just one.

I have the same model, passed down from my maternal grandfather and shipped on St. Patrick's Day 1936, ser# 485693. The letters were free when I requested one around 1978. Yours appears to be in great condition, and I can't complain about the condition of my gun as it is 88 years old. My grandmother gave it to me nearly 47 years ago after my grandfather passed since I was in LE and no other grandchildren had an interest in firearms.

I stands for infectious. Beware this virus may send you scouring the web and gun shows for "delicate" revolvers. I know it very well, because I have had the I-frame infection for over a decade. This can lead to multiples of Terriers and Regulation Police guns. But it's better than spending all your cash on tobacco and hard liquor.

That’s a beauty alright, congrats!
It was made between 1929 and 1936 based on its features. In my opinion the 3 1/4” barrel makes it the most pleasing version.
It’s 1/8” shorter in the length of the cylinder window and the grip frame is 1/8” shorter in height than the J frame with round butt.

There is something about them isn't it? My wife saw one at the the LGS not too long ago, said it was "cute" and "looked lonely" and made me bring it home. Since then like an unwanted puppy it has worked it's way into my heart. I can see where others say they're addictive. I've found myself looking for more of them myself.
The one we have is from about 1920, has been refinished, and is wearing a set of stocks from a later time period, but I think it's a beauty. I'm sure everyone here is sick of the picture, but I like to show it off.
I'll have to do a picture of it next to my Model 28. THAT would be something.

I have 4 RP's. 3 38's and one 32. from 1917 to 1930. I have #108 that must have dwelled in a sock drawer all its life. The 1930 was shipped and is marked for the Chelsea, MA PD. I was born in Chelsea, MA so it holds a place in my heart. Big Larry

You know the more I think about this gun the more I draw parallels to nice watches with all of those perfectly made, precision small parts.
So I’ll pair my new revolver with this 1931 Gruen Curvex. Two small perfectly machined instruments.🙂

The 2”, top of middle row has a bent trigger guard in front of the trigger. That’s pretty easy to fix by pulling it out with something round and hard thru the trigger guard. Trigger guards are relatively soft.

Apparently only the common J frame with fully exposed hammer has been made on the J Magnum frame with the lengthened cylinder window. I’ll have to confirm when I have my books at hand.

UPDATE: Pages 244 and 511, SCSW 4th ed.
1996 - August, Model 36-9 JM (J Magnum) frame replaced ALL J frames whether or not chambered for the .357 Mag, 1.6” longer cyl and 1.73” frame window, as well as MIM hammer and trigger.
This includes the 642-1 which is the reintroduction of the 642 on the J magnum frame.
The dead giveaway to the JM frame is the elimination/change of the separate cyl stop lug piece in the lower right corner of the cyl window to the cyl stop integral with the frame.
