Early NUMBERED Non-Relieved Targets
I have read that the early unrelieved N frame target stocks were numbered to the guns they were fitted to, but this is the first time I have actually owned a pair. Serial number 130966 puts them in the 1955 range, I believe. They came to me on a 44 magnum, 4 screw variation, which, I'm fairly certain should have had cokes installed. As just a wild guess I think these stocks originally came on The 357 Magnum, S130966. If anyone here owns S130966 we might possibly be able to strike a deal, as now I need a set of cokes for my gun (PM communication only, please).
Any information on numbered NRT stocks and the guns they were installed on would be appreciated.

You don't say if they're smooth targets or checkered. I think most of the N frame non-relieved targets, checkered and with diamonds, were originally on Model of 1950 Targets in 45acp (pre-26) or possibly 44 Specials (pre-24). Most I've seen were not numbered but I do have one set that is. In most cases I've read about here, even if numbered they're usually not found numbered to the gun. One exception to that was reported here some time back. The number on this set is 130285.
The 357s (pre-27s) with non-relieved targets, most that I've seen anyway, were in rosewood, although I suppose they could have been in other wood types.
Here's the numbered set that I have.
And a set from a 357 Magnum from 1953 which I'm pretty sure, but not certain, are original to the gun. These are not numbered.

I recall at least one set documented on a model of 1955 .45. Agree your early .44 Magnum would not have had this stock style from the factory.
An "Ask Roy Jinks" question would probably get you the ID of the original gun for the stocks.

Early in the life of the 1955 45 Target revolver, some stocks were numbered to a particular frame (like the Combat Magnum). However, it was soon realized this was unnecessary. Numbered stocks ended up on revolvers with different serial numbers (like the Combat Magnum). This was complicated by the fact that some of the early frames intended for the 1955 45 Targets were used to make early 44 Magnums which used the new special oversized type of stocks. Target stocks were also an extra cost option for the Highway Patrolman and I have heard of examples of stocks numbered to the revolver when this model was ordered with target stocks. I have a set of N diamond targets made of walnut serial numbered in the 166000 range.

Time for a couple pictures of these walnut checkered stocks. My OP was during my first cup of of expresso, but I'm awake now. Note the depression from the round head upper side plate screw. The 44 mag they came on has the flat head screw. Further evidence they were originally on a different gun. I have not done anything to clean them up yet but they are in very nice condition.

Early NUMBERED Non-Relieved Targets
I have a first year highway patrolman with a 6in barrel that wears a numbers matching set of non-relieved checkered target stocks.
I’ve seen other sets that are numbered but none that are still attached to its respective gun.

I have a set on an early Hwy Patrolman also, but they don't have the same number as the gun. The fit perfectly and couldn't look anymore original. I have another set on a 1950 model 38/44 Outdoorsman that I got from a forum brother. They don't number to the gun either, and they have "the scar".

I have a set of Non-Relieved Target stocks numbered 165852 on my Model 1950 .45 Target revolver. The gun is numbered in the mid-S145,000 range and shipped in April of 1956. The SCSW says 1956-1957 for the serial number range on the stocks so they are close but from a later gun. Is it safe to assume that the Non-Relieved Target Stocks must have ended not much after my stocks numbered 165852 ? Here's a pic.
