This was a former Mike Priwer gun and I think Mike sold it to George W., from whom I bought it about five years ago. It is indeed a very nice specimen and of my favorite Higway Patrolman revolvers.

Best regards from Germany.

ps. I was always satisfied with the guns I bought from George W.

Very nice example of a Hwy Patrolman. Lettered and docs add to a very clean looking revolver.
All you need and nothing you don't!
I know Geo W. takes a beating here but I sold him a HD 44 spl a year or two ago, he was a gentelman and we had a smooth deal.
Great pics and good post from Germany!

That's a very "clean" lookin' pistol, a fine example of a utility .357.

Good looking gun, great docs. Congratulations.
I just love these old midcentury and even prewar Smiths that are now in their 50s, 60s and 70s.

Paul
Well - its nice to see an old friend, still looking good !
I sold that gun to Ray Brazille in Oct of 2003, so I assume that Ray sold it to
George. Indeed its a very early model 28, being first month production.
We were living in Seattle at the time I bought it - I assume the letter is the one
I ordered - sent to the Bellevue WA address ? I bought the gun, as I recall, from
Wades Eastside Gun Shop, in Bellevue. When I learned that it was originally sold
by Warshals, I thought it might make an interesting story, to write about a gun that
probably never left the Seattle area.
Warshals was still in business at the time. Its a sporting goods store, selling all
kinds of camping, hunting, fishing, etc, stuff. In the early years, they were a big
outlet for S&W guns, along with a couple of hardware stores in the Seattle area. We
lived in the Seattle area from 1991 to 1998 . Somewhere in that time-frame, Warshals
went out of the gun business, but is still in the sporting goods business.
In writing the article, I called the store, and spoke with one of the Warshals.
For whatever reason, they didn't have any old pictures, or advertisements, etc. There
was virtually no information available. I had hoped to develop it into a story about
the old-time gun stores, but it didn't work out that way.
Regards, Mike Priwer

Dear Mike,
Thank you very much for your quick response. Yes, it is your factory letter, but I did not know whether I could announce the first page of letter or not, as you WA address would be available, and I wasen't sure if you are still living there. I think caution is important.
Best regards Paul

This is very cool. I was just going post a HP Birthday thread when I saw this one.
Shipped May 10, 1954 and went to Marshall Wells CO, Spokane, WA.
Happy Birthday to both.

Paul and Mike
Very curious - Pauls gun has the rounded-end pins holding the front sight assembly, I
assume Mikes has polished pins .
Paul - what is the date of the Journal for that story ? And its OK to use the first page
if you want - we no longer live there .
I do have three or four early S&W flyers for these guns. I think the one that shows only
the 4" barrel offering is the earliest one. Somehow you ought to have copies of these
flyers, to make the presentation complete !
Happy Birthday, guys !
Regards, Mike Priwer

Warshal's must have sold a lot of S&W's. I have a .38-44 HD that was shipped to Warshal's and bought by Boeing Aircraft and marked by them. I have or had another one or two that lettered to Warshal's but can't remember offhand what they are/were.

Very nice Highway Patrolman, Paul! It is much nicer than mine. So is Pace's!
Mine was shipped within a week of you guys', May 17. I read in Mike's article that the serial numbers were widely dispersed, and mine proves it, SN S110174.
Thanks for posting this information. I wonder if mine was one of the first 571?
