There was a sporting goods store on 13th St. just across the street from Sears. (the Sears building is now the City Hall) I bought a fine MacGregor baseball glove there in the late 50's. The store's name then was The Sports Center, but it seems it was named something else before that. Holt's rings a bell. I have some feelers out to some other long-time Lubbock people. This got me to wondering too.

Update...One old-timer thinks there was a Holts store at 6th and College (later University) across from the TT football stadium.
