Ive got a chance to buy a set of Ivory grips, and I think I can afford the "wife tax" that goes with them. The seller says they are on his Mod 28 but I wanted to put them on my 1917. I dont have a mod 28 to swap grips with my 1917 and the seller isnt local. The price is fair, but neither of us are sure if theyll fit a 1917.

The "wife tax" is gonna be bad enough, but Im not sure I can deal with it, if they dont fit and I have to send them back, then I'll hear about wasted money on postage for weeks, atleast until the next QVC order arrives....

It seems to me they should fit, but Id like some other opinions to confirm.

They're both N Frames so they should fit. They might not be a perfect fit as grips were final fitted to the individual gun.

Do you have ANY N frames with regular Magna Grips to swap out & try on your 1917.?

M-28 grips are NO different than other N frames; the only 2 "oddballs" in older N frames, being the M-58 and M-520 that came with the "PC" or "modified magnas".

There IS a slight difference in grip frame length in N frames before and after W.W. 2, or a few years afterwards-but "no big deal" for shooting purposes.

Wat da hell is a "wife tax"??? Christ, smuggle the handguns into the house; hide em', and have any packages sent to where you work, or to a pals's home!!

When I tried a set of Magnas on my 1917, I found that the grip frame length of the 1917 was longer and the bottom of the frame stuck out beneath the grips. Not by very much, but easy to see and very easy to feel.

Even the Modified Magna's will fit. These stocks were on this 1917 when I bought it. They fit fine....

Thanks, I figured they would work. Even if the spacing is only slightly off I'll probably keep them. I just dont want to see any daylight or have them slip and rattle.

Jeeese guys, I know Im not the only fella that has to pay "taxes" at home. Its the "what do you need that for....", that seems to cost the most.

I dont know how we got to this point. I KNOW my grandfather never asked my grandmother what she thought about anything. My dad always had a good relationship with mom; but I cant ever remember her saying "you cant do that...", and neither of them ever raised a hand to their wives. They were the great generations that fought evil to keep us safe.

What happened to us? Its not like I want to spend the kids milk money. Heck most of my toys are bought with my "lunch money". I shouldda had her put it in writting before we said I doooooo, but I guess I musta known better when she wouldnt say "love, honor, and obey...." (Just kidding honey......)

Edel,
Likewise. I just tried 4 sets of post-war N frame Magnas on my 1917 Commercial. 2 pairs were diamond magnas and 2 pairs were later non-diamonds. They all fit nearly perfectly around the sides. They all show just a little bit of metal along the base. I personally don't think it is enough to matter or make them look 'off'. I would be very happy with ivories that fit that good!
Chris
FWIW, I re-shaped an early N frame to K frame size. I couldn't take any metal off the bottom because of the serial number. The metal overhang was just a hare worse. I beveled that edge of the frame, and it took care of the problem.

I know exactly what you mean. My significant other told me recently that if I buy another gun any time soon without selling one first, she'll shoot me with it. I haven't called her bluff yet. I'll have to do some "creative" trading at the gun show this weekend if I find something I can't live without!

I understand the "wife tax". She didn't say anything about the 32 HE I brought home last weekend, but decided we could also afford the waterfall in the garden she had wanted.

My wife an I have come to an agreement that we each get a certain amount a month to spend as we see fit. No questions asked.
I do my part and spend mine, she just saves hers up. I'm currently trying to find a way to get her interested in old S&W's

My grandad must have been a class act. Dad said he would lay out work for he and his brothers, ride off, and it better be done when he got back! Dad said a number of times he would come home, tell grandma I just bought another farm, (without discussing it with her), tell the boys start loading everything on to a hay wagon and to get moveing!
Grandpa had 6 kids by 1st wife when she died young, met grandma who was a widow a dozen years younger, with 1 little boy, fresh over to this country from old russia, (now the ukraine) so was he also from there, they had been german settlers in russia. Anyway he married grandma exactly 1 month from the day he buried his 1st wife, dad was the 1st kid of 10 more, and born exactly 9 months later! Dad lived to just short of 90, died 4 years ago. Things sure were different and hard back then!
I am married to my 2nd wife just 3 years now, she is 17 years younger and we do everything together and neither of us would think of telling the other what to do! She takes good care of me, and I do her.

Here is a model 1917 with smooth grips on it. I cant remember if I bought it that way many years ago or if me or my dad put them on. What do you think they are off of?

Just tell her she still owes you the husband tax from her last QVC order.
