Here are a few photos of what I consider to be the finest-quality set of grips I've seen.
Keith's carving skills are showcased in this set of Kearsarge-style target grips.
The wood is presentation-grade French Walnut, and the gun is RM # 675.

Very nice grips Don. Some day I'll get a set from Keith. Just curious, what part of NE ohio do you live in. You have some nice guns. Larry

Those are just gorgeous. Keith's skill is simply incredible.

I've said it before, but a 50 years from now Keith's work is going to be very, very highly prized! Every bit, if not more, than the original Ropers or Kearsages.

I know and like Keith. He's an interesting guy. But I tend to doubt at this stage if his work will end up selling for more than the originals.

He does wonderful work, on his Ropers, on his Kearsarge, and on his prewar replica's. At some point in time he's going to either tire of making reproductions, or will find something of his own to move into. For him to really gain a name for himself, he's going to need to develop his own grips. Roy Fishpaugh has done that, as have other well respected grip makers, like Don Collins, etc. As his name gets out and becomes more recognized, that will be possible. Some, like Jim Alaimo, of Nutmegsports kind of seem to shun the use of their personal name and instead try to build a "brand." We'll see where this goes.

Don, thanks vey much for posting the pictures. The grips look quite at home on your RM, quite a step up from my HD. Thanks to all the posters for the kind comments. Onomea, I'll have granite sittin on my head by then but maybe I should make a few sets for the kids to stick back. Dick, anytime I think I might be tired of making grips I just think how much I don't want to ever be back in a machine shop and the thought goes away. As to developing my own grips, coming up with something new is one of those things that just happens I think. I can't think of anyone's grips/stocks today that are really original in all features, they are all someone's version of something else with maybe a new twist. The Roper style that I do is really quite a bit different from a true original Roper grip, in wood choice, palm swell, finish and several other things that the the hand would pick up but maybe not the eye,and always evolving so they are not really true Ropers. I can't speak for others as to why they do not use their own name but for me it seemed like the right thing to do. My name is my fathers, first and last and I'm proud of it. Enough so that I also gave it to my first born son. I would never want to think of it as a "brand". Oh, and DW I think you have your own talent, good thread on refinishing. Your acetone looks just about like mine, furnace also!.

Keith
