Finally got my 1950 Military 6.5" letter - question re: J. L. Galef & Son

Well, after over five months, I got my letter for my 6.5" 1950 Military .44 Special, SN S106354. It shipped in 1954 to J. L. Galef & Son in New York City. All I know about them is that they imported European shotguns and went out of business in the early 80s. Does anyone know anything else about this company, particularly as it relates to S&W revolvers? They aren't a distributor I've ever heard of selling Smiths.

I think they go back to at least the 1930's as a sporting goods dealer/retailer in NYC. Kind of Sears Roebuck type of store handling most every type of gear from many different manufacturers. They were importers of many different lines of guns & equiptment over the years. I've heard of more than a few factory S&W letters coming back with shipment info stateing that it went to Galefs & Son,,sometimes in a group of several guns of the same type.
 
Thanks for the info. This gun isn't listed as shipping with any others. It sure would be neat if it had shipped with other 6.5" guns.

My gun was obviously carried and used, but well cared for. I had hoped it might letter to an individual or PD. Now, I can only dream of who used it. It shoots quite well with factory 246-grain ammo - right to point of aim. I like it a lot, but would love to know its stories.
