USNCPC=United States Navy Civilian Police Corps. picked it up yesterday at a small local show. SN 748784, all matching, but missing the lanyard ring, which is on the way thanks to a very kind forum member. i will definately letter this one. lee

Lee, Nice find. That's a very early serial number for the USNCP guns, probably shipped in the first batch of 300 ( or 350, depending on the source of your info.) Is therre any thing special about it, other than the USNCP stamping? Grips numbered to the gun? Caliber still .38Special? Please add the info. to the S&WCA USNCP data base. Springfield Research may have info. on where that serial number was shipped by the Navy. Many went to defense plants. Ed.

ed, all matching, including grips. still .38 spec. no markings other than the backstrap. i sent the info to charlie flick for his data base, but will add to the S&WCA today. i will letter this one soon.
mike, i had to use your old coca cola trick on the hammer and trigger. still have other parts soaking. it was very dry inside. will send pics when i get it back together. lee

lee, first you roll up a twenty dollar bill, then get a mirror and a razor blade. oops, wrong kind. mike(pace40) posted a thread a while back about soaking a hammer over night in coke to remove some surface rust. worked for me too. do a search under his posts and you will probably find it. great trick of the trade and i appreciate him sharing it. lee

Be careful with that Co-cola. Back in the late '70s, a friend of mine bought a new M29 and his girlfriend spilled Coke on it. Took the blue right off. He had to send it back to the factory for a reblue.
