Lefty & Gunbarrel, great pics!

From one NY'er to another, here's a Terrier that shipped to Charles Greenblatt in NYC.
Photo complete with a "candy striped" knife & a NYC subway token!

Chances are pretty good that it went to a Metropolitan NY/NJ area LEO. Greenblatt was one of the largest "approved" equipment vendors. The holster is also very nice, but looks like it was made for a Colt DS? Seems large for the Terrier. Greenblatt also sold them, the service style holsters that is, along with everything else. The toothpick candy cane knife is very visually exciting, who was the maker?

Here's the "Baby" Chief that's been my constant companion for a very long time. The knife, familiar to many of you I suppose, is one that I confiscated over the years. I carry it nearly all the time. Which is an absurdity considering the number of superior quality knives I own. Go figure? Made in Solingen, Germany by Mercator, this little K55 lockback folder has an excellent carbon blade that holds a superior edge. It is nearly flat, constructed from a metal stamping. I seem to recall someone saying these were mass produced for German soldiers during WWII? What I can tell you is that I saw crime scene photos from a homicide where the victim was nearly decapitated with one of these. They're nearly like a razor and were as common as dirt in NYC once upon a time. There's a company now selling them, new, on the internet for around $20 or so. I think it's cutlerytogo.com Same knife, same makers. Just a good, inexpensive, all around pocket knife. Works well in the garden and shop too!

Thanks, Lefty!

The holster is a bit loose. If I remember correctly, I think there's a DS 102 stamped on the backside (I'll have to take a look). I know it was too small for a K-frame and I don't have a Colt Det. Special to try.

The knife has patent stampings of 2037943 and 2170537. I think it's a HAMMER brand. I can just make out the letter HAM---.

This little Terrier is the 1st S&W I bought. You're probably right, it most likely went to a local LEO in the NYC area. An uncle of mine was a retired NYC detective. While growing up, I remember him carrying a small snub nose in the late 1950's.

Here's a holster that fits a little bit better. It's got an interesting belt clip on the back!

I'm wondering if that clip was made by Franzite, the plastic grip makers that were so popular in the 50's and 60's?

I think I have a couple of Hammer brand knives. I'll check out the tang stamps and let you know.

Edited to add;

I checked. Two have "Hammer" and an arm and hammer (literally) tang stamp. The other just reads "Hammer". They are all similar to yours in design, like a toothpick or fishing style knife. The company was in Walden, NY I think.

The Hammer brand you have was made by Imperial Cutlery Prov. R.I.
There is a better quality Hammer Brand made by New York Knife Company which is very collectable.The one you have is also collectable just not as valuable as the NY

I had those Franzite clips on holsters before,not sure if it is the same as the grip maker.But would they are the same company.
