Here is a picture of the sight adjustment tool that my friend recently found in a junk box at a PA gunshow. It measures 2 1/4" overall, is knurled and nickel plated and the handle is hollow and the blade has a straight taper. Is the correct for a pre war magnum

gary, nice find and good friend indeed. maybe i shouldn't share this, but sewing machine drawers are a place to look at estate auctions or yard sales. had a friend find one like yours there a few years ago. lee

Seems like it ought to be black, not nickel or stainless or aluminum.
But - I don't have easy access to my registered magnum boxes, to
check them.

As long as you asked, Yes , plural. I have about a dozen registered
magnums, and generally boxes for each - some original.

I think you are right - but that screwdriver pictured above does not
look like the sight-adjusting one. It looks too large, as though it
is for the grip screw, and side-plate screw.

It's too small for the side plate screws, it is only 2 1/4" overall

Gary...I am sure it is the correct screwdriver for the pre-war target revolvers. The difficulty with the photo is there is nothing to compare it to (i.e. a post-war screwdriver with the larger handle and blade).

Gary...the additional photo helps. Post-war screwdrivers measure approximately 3.25 to 3.5 inches in length and the width of the blade tip is 3/16-inch.

Thanks for the input. Based on these comments it is definitely a pre war tool.

Gary, Your screw driver is the pre-war "Sight Adjusting Tool" for the rear sights on target models. It has the seven rows of knurlings and the 2 1/4 in. length. It's the rare & hard to find one. eBay sales have run $600 low side to $1,000 high end. Congrats, Ed.

The shorter size ,as well as thje double step in the shank... yes, the old sewing machines and their drawers , is the place to look. My aunt was one of the 700 "fussy" tailors for the old Richman Bros and she had a few of these years and years ago, I was told it was from Whites???? Need to find or get more details , as thats almost before MY time
Yes, she had those old foot operated ones, what was that "trendle or treddle" or such. Anyway, especially around here in Amish country where they are still "foot powered"............
Anyway , yes, that indeed is a very nice "find".......
