This 1950 Target 44, S131000 range, with a 4-inch barrel and bright blue finish was shipped to Olympic Wholesale in Los Angeles, CA in March 1955. Shipped originally with smooth stocks made of Goncalo alves, it is now fitted with "Kearsarge" style stocks by Keith Brown. The black streaks against the soft brown color of the wood are particularly striking and the carving is superb, as usual. This revolver and stocks make an exceptional combination.

I'm pretty much over the aquisition mania I used to have, but I'd like to have that. With just a minor change, that would be the perfect revolver.

Larry...No information on Olympic Wholesale, except they were a large distributor and received several of the early 44 Magnums.

Bill,
That sure is nice! Any chance you might send it back to California?
I'll send my C&R right away!
Best,
Michael

Doc44, thanks. Any idea when they went out of business? Wish I could find out where the 10 model 14's they ordered went to. You sure have a nice collection of S&W's. I was wondering what gun you were going to put the carved Keith's grips on. Looks great. Larry

I'm not a fan of the red ramp front sights, but in the case of that gun I'd get over it. Nothing a can of sight black won't cure. Very, very nice revolver.

Thanks for posting the picture Bill, it's a very beautiful and scarce revolver and quite nice to see the grips on it. aphelion,I favor black on black sights also but would make a exception with this one. The .44 special is a very proper round and a favorite of mine.

Since I was born in 1950 I think it's only fair that one of you gives me your gun. Oh I forgot I'm canadian and therefore not allowed to have the 4". Ok Jerry it's up to you....

I would send it to you right away BUT even though it is a Model of 1950 .44HE Target it actually is a 1954 gun. It just would not be right to send you a gun from the incorrect year !

Bill has given me advice about how he takes such excellent photos. I am building a setup like his this month and will practice.
He has posted dozens of outstanding photos here in the past, but I still feel that this photo of the 4" 1950 is the single best looking photo ever shown on the Forum. It is now the image I use on my desktop !
Thanks again Bill for your help !
Jerry

Dick...I did not receive your email. My uncle spent most of his time in Europe with the 12th Armored Divison. When the war in Europe ended he was transferred to the 2nd Armored Division until he was sent back to th U.S. in late 1945. He was single and did not have enough points to go home in the early waves of soldiers returning, so he had to spend time on the French Riviera, etc.
My father joined the Army in January 1941 and was due to be discharged in January 1942. He finally was discharged, in October 1945. So much for spending your year and getting out.
In addition to the uniform, I have the Colt M1911A1 and shoulder holster my Dad carried for several years as a First Sergeant in the 249th Coast Artillery and later the 28th Infantry Division.
