I lucked into this bad boy and its all mine! Its a six inch and is in great shape.Sadly the grips on the gun were newer so I took them off and put these old ones on. The name on the side is of a man that started some casinos in Reno way back in the day.The inscription is silver inlaid. The serial number range is 58xxx. This is the first time I ever held one of these, let me tell you it feels good!I am in the market to trade for some older grips.

Congratulations on a great find. Can you provide some more details, i.e. what is the name on the side and what is the registration number. Thanks.

A minty pair of correct grips to match this gun could be very very pricey. What are you looking to offer in trade? You should letter this gun ASAP, so that you know what style and material the correct grips were that came on the gun, so you can trade for the correct style grips. (Service style diamond walnut, Magnas, Ivory, Ropers,Pearls,Jigged bone,Tuskoid, etc.) It's pretty late in production (1939) and probably didn't come with a grip adapter, but you won't know until you see the letter. The orignal owner, whose name is on the gun, had enough $$ to have had some fancy grips put on by the factory. Nice find!

Thanks,I have some n frame target grips,un opened (in the plastic sealed cardboard) k frame round butts and guns. And all kinds of goodies.I guess I should wait to get the grips until I letter it. These guns are out there and they can be found. I cant say if the inscription is factory, but the man was In Reno in 38 and eventually opened up a casino.

Congratulations! Luck has helped a number of us find rare old guns (I thank it every day).
I would second the previous posters advice - more info (reg #, clear name inscribed on the gun, a few crisp photos with the grips removed, and LETTER THAT GUN). With that info, the experts will really be able to help you with technical background and history.
By the way, that is a beautiful old Magnum! Have you shot it yet?
Thanks for the post,
Jerry

Whats the registration #? Just asking.
Yes, the correct grips will cost you a bundle. If you give up all hope, Keith Brown can make some up for you from scratch. He either has or can locate correct large medallions (from me! ). Yes, pristine service stocks or early Magna's will set you back a bundle. I'm starting to think the early Magna's at $600 are a bargain these days. Perfect ones are now appearing with an asking price in the $750 range. There are other options, like finding period Ropers or Kearsarge, or just buying aged ivory.

Looks great! Those grips are sorta intriguing. I don't think I've seen grips like that before.
This is, what? The third RM to turn up in the last coupla weeks. The one in the Florida Keys, the one the guy inherited along with the certificate and ammo, and now this one. And it's only January!

Yeah I was excited to get this one to say the least! It was wearing newer target grips, the grips that are on it is some that I picked up many moons ago.The action feels so slick, and the gun isnt that bad either! These guns are out there and all these RMs getting picked up here lately proves it.This was the first RM I ever had in my hand,no one ever lets you touch them!I dont know when I will send off for a letter, but eventually I will.

The letter situation is kind of a mess. First, its after the first of the year so you in theory can send for one again. But now the price is $50 instead of the old $30.
Guessing on how long it will take is just a crapshoot. Some come quick, like 3 or 4 weeks if the stars all align in your favor. More commonly, its 6 weeks. It depends on Roy's work load and vacation schedule. Don't expect to get yours fast. Be happily surprised.
