Hello,
My buddy has a S&W 1905 with a broken cylinder pin (layman's terms? Long rod that runs up, attaching underneath the barrel.)

It's snapped off and he needs a replacement. My question: Are the cylinder and rod all one piece, requiring the replacement of the cylinder too?

If so, where does one find a replacement part(s). I told him he may need to find an old parts gun since he may not be able to locate the single part.

Would appreciate your help to get this revolver in proper working order.

Thanks,

Mark.

It looks like Numrich gun parts has the extractor rod. The cylinder and extractor rod are not one part. You should be able to unscrew the rod from the cylinder. The saying "lefty loosy" applies

here is the link to the military and police section at numrich's website.

Adam & Mark, My experience over many years with Numrich is that they list lots of parts in their catalogs & web pages, but seldom have them in stock. I'd say only about 20% of the time do I get a part I've ordered and 1/2 of those parts sent to me are the wrong one for the particular gun I'm repairing. A Model 1905 has several variations of the "Cylinder pin" you describe over the long years of engineering changes in it's production life, so you need the part from a gun that has a close serial number, and no way can Numrich tell you what style of cylinder extractor rod you gun needs, even if you send them the old part!. Fire up the old metal lathe and machine a new part yourself, using the old part as a sample, or look for a junker gun with a close serial number. Ed.

Ed,

Gosh, you got me nervous now! I have had really good luck with numrich's in the past. I just ordered a couple of misc. parts for my first 1905 that I got a couple weeks ago, Numrich's said they have shipped, so I guess we'll see if they got it right ......
