What would Dirty Harry think?
Actually I just wanted to show off the badge I just got off Ebay.
The gun is N61195 shipped May 1972. You might remember it from my electric sight thread.
BTW be careful when you bid on Ebay as I thought I was bidding dollars and I was bidding Pounds. Oh well...it's cool and very well made (the badge).

I watched the movie with commentary the other day. I didn't know that Dirty Harry wasn't supposed to throw the badge into the pond. It was a last minute decision by Clint. The commentator said it was the only badge they had, and they were lucky the shot came off clean.

Curtis,
I think Harry would ask, "Are those light special loads?"
He screwed that line up in the movie. He was supposed to say that "they're special, light loads", not light special loads. They decided to leave it the way he said it.

He would think. I've got to get a longer barrel punk. How can I shoot you with a 3 3/4 incher.

Now that's cool. Did any of the badges actually look like this or was this just made for the movie?

Real SF Inspector badges are gold, feature hard fired blue enamel and engraving, they are really works of art.
The "Dirty Harry" star is a movie only prop. Here is a picture from the SF Police website

And I thought I was the only person who liked Dirty Harry anymore? I prefer the snub mod 19 used by Lt. Briggs in Magnum Force, but to each his own.

I don't care much for Pythons either. I do like the Det Special with exposed extractor rod though. You have to admit, though, he got quite a bit of work done with that Python throughout the flick.

The badge and the other DH guns and items are way cool
I have to ask...seems like I read that they didn't have a .44 Mag, so in the movie, Clint is really packing a .41 playing the role of the .44...is that true or just rumor?

False rumor, though he did use a .41 in a couple of publicity shots.
There were 2 6.5 inch M29-2's used in the film and Director John Milius has one of them in his collection.

Dang Roe
You got me trumped.
I believe I heard that Clint also used a 25 for some shots as the bore looked bigger.
Wasnt there an All Model Circular that had DH's pic on it??

Actually, I read there were 3. At least, that was what I read at the NRA museum in Oct. 2002.

This gun was on display at the NRA convention in May. It's mislabeled as a 6" instead of 6.5", and is not in really good shape. Maybe it was the gun they used for stunts. For what it's worth:

Most of these rumors say a M25-5. The movie was made before the M25-5 came out and the majority of M25s have Patridge front sights.

Smith disease 26 years and counting
It has been 26 years since I bought my first smith.Although I have purchased other brands. I have to admit It's the smith I like to reach for when I go to the range. I think the fun one to shoot is the victory model 10 in 38 s&w. When shooting a old hubcap from far,you can hear the two reports. from the actual firing and then the impact.that caliber being so slow, there is about a half second between the two. I also love my 2 44's a 6 inch 629 and a 8 3/8 29. I load them down for informal plinking. Anothe fav is the model 59.which I bought used at a gun dealer in Ventura California, and was a police trade in. I had it refinished for a c note and I have put at leat 1500 down the tube over the years and is still tight and reliable. The 59 is the same pistol Elvis carried and is on display in Graceland. It was all the rage in the early to mid 70's. As hi caps were just coming on seen. Even though the hipower was big in Europe. Well if you have a smith collection ,drag them out and lets see them

This has been addressed ad naseum on this and other Forums. No .41 or .45 caliber Smiths were used in any filming or publicity shots for the Dirty Harry films. Doc44 has provided detailed information regarding the guns Smith&Wesson provided and John Milius has also addressed this publically. It's an urban legend plain and simple.

with so many wanting "Dirty Harry" memorabilia, Your gun would be a far better representative of the gun that he carried through his rough & tumble career. I do appreciate the pretty pristine ones. Pristine is good but a Police gun will have many hard earned blemishes.

Dirty Harry is my favorite cop movie. But...it was just a movie, albeit loosely based upon very real historical events.
The Model 29 didn't make the movie beyond excellent: Clint Eastwood transformed a pedestrian movie in to spectacular movie.
Dirty Harry depicted era specific zeitgeist with latent political & social influences. Scorpio was the Zodiac Killer, an actual psycho serial killer who was never ID'd & caught.
The opening scene, hugely famous, of a bank robbery, portrayed Black Panthers, an extremely dangerous & well organized criminal street gang. The Black Panthers were more vicious and dangerous that the KKK. Their objective was the overthrow of the US government. They had routinely robbed banks to finance their diabolical agenda. Black Panthers murdered a lot innocent people, especially cops. The Black Panthers targeted cops for assassination.
Earl Warren, a delusional sociopath, had attempted to rewrite the US Constitution. His most famous opinions had absolutely no constitution bases. So he made up bases in order to justify his illegal opinions. Earl Warren believed he should have been president. Eisenhower selected Nixon over Warren. Eisenhower compensated Warren by rewarding him with position of chief justice of US marsupial menagerie (AKA: US Supreme Court). Warren wrote Japanese Internment Camp law for treasonous FDR. Eisenhower would later call Warren, "The biggest damned fool mistake of my life."
The bank robbery scene is most famous of the movie. It is an excellent scene. But my favorite scene was Dirty Harry's meeting with two girly men: SF DA & the appellate court judge. It forcefully revealed the horrific consequences of whack-job Earl Warren along with girly men who were too insecure to do right in deference to "legal" wrong. They were more concerned with Scorpio's illusory "rights" that were made up by Earl Warren. Harry Callahan wanted to murderer of a child where he should have been: death row. Hence, the palpable exposure of renegade government: the US marsupial menagerie (kangaroo court).
Dirty Harry cogently exposed Earl Warren's law as crazy.
Scorpio learned the dead way that he shouldn't have murdered children on Dirty Harry's beat.
The most forceful scene of Dirty Harry:
BTW, the Model 29 is not a tactical handgun & is unsuitable for urban police work.

After all these years of watching that movie and reading the cast of characters,I never knew or realized that the Scorpio killer was Edward G. Robinson’s son?

This is wrong. Andrew Robinson is NOT the son of Edward G Robinson.
Robinson was born in New York City. His father was a soldier in World War II and was killed when Robinson was three years old. After his father's death, he and his mother moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where he was raised with her family.

Yes after really researching this I found that this to be bogus as well. Edward G. Robinson did have a son but was named after his father, Edward G. Robinson Jr.
One thing I have to admit though Andrew Robinson does somewhat resemble Edward G....

Arisin Wind,
You're right & I was wrong about Andrew Robinson.
He did play the role of a psycho murderer superbly.

Dirty Harry cogently exposed reality of dangers of our court system; dangers about which our Founding Fathers forewarned. Dirty Harry did have exigent circumstances to search Scorpio's "residence." A child's life was at risk.
Fruits of the Poisonous Tree was gobbledygook from a psychotic mind. Reasonable and logical people would not want a psychotic serial murderer to walk because a moron cloaked in shear black nylon imposed his assumption to the detriment of dead victims and victims awaiting the same fate.
We all get caught up in the exciting stuff & fail to hear extremely important messages. I was a kid when Dirty Harry hit the Silver Screen. It wasn't until many years after college that I had grasped the significance of scenes that I thought were diversions when I was a kid. Dirty Harry made the Model 29 common talk among boys. What I was too young to understand and lacked knowledge to comprehend was horrendous consequences of morons who were insulated from We, the People & imposed illegal laws upon We, the People. They do so today. Who runs our country, the president or black cloaked morons who think they have power to negate Article II?
Our Founding Fathers had never intended three equal branches of government. Article III was intended to be subordinate to Articles I & II. Our Founding Fathers, especially Thomas Jefferson, who had a pronounced distrust of judges, warned us of a branch of government that was outside of purview of We, the People. How prescient he was.
Earl Warren's creating law from his psycho mind stirred a huge demand from Americans for his impeachment. He should've been impeached and his illegal laws nullified. Only congress has constitutional authority to create law, not marsupial whack-jobs.
Dirty Harry was a movie of significant social impact. I didn't understand it as a kid. I did long after it was too late.
The scene of Black Panthers robbing a bank with a theater marquee in the background displaying Play Misty for Me has to be one of the greatest scenes in Tinseltown's history.
BTW, if you watch bank robbery scene, you'll see how recoil of the mighty .44 Magnum yanked Harry's Model 29 far off target, which is a huge tactical disadvantage. A cop's gun's muzzle must always remain on target, which is one reason the Model 29 is not a tactical handgun. It might be if fired with powerful .44 Spl rounds.

Don't give much credence to TV depictions of the law, or anything else that has any seriousness. When my wife watches one of the flavors of Law and Orders (she's a serious fan), I make her crazy with my commentaries on how just about everything is done wrong. Same with cop shows, especially in their depictions of shots fired incidents. I'm sure that folks with a fire background had comments about "Emergency", and medical folks about all the medical shows of the last 35 or so years.
