Default 19-3 Pinned and Recessed

So I am at a show yesterday with my sons, a pretty good show for collectors of all kinds but not one where you will usually find modern handguns and there at one of the very last tables we visit is a 4" 19-3 in about 98% condition. I ask the seller if I can take a look at it, and it looks even nicer out of the case. $495, no box or anything else, I think I could have had it for $400 OTD. Ah well, I made it through the show without spending any real money, not sure I want throw down that kind of ching in front of the kids, so I pass on it. Get home, surfing around the internet and within 5 minutes I find a box, tools, and instructions for sale. Darn!! I figure maybe it will still be there at the next show in December, maybe I will buy myself a Christmas present. Like I need another S&W blued revolver!! Oh yeah I do...

You guys are killing me!! Yes, it had beautiful wood stocks!!

I resisted temptation to go back to the show today, the 70 mile ride was too much. Now I just need to be patient, and hope, for the revolver to be there in December.

I have a nice p&r 19-4 6" that I bought this year at a show for $375.00 out the door. timing is perfect, but a little blueing wear, but shoots great groups. it is my version of the "outdoorsman" smaller frame & hotter round. but I will mostly shoot 158gr. cast SWC & 6.0grs. of Unique. clocks at around 1100fps.

Whenever at a show and you find a nice one get a business card or contact information and write the necessary info down. I kicked myself once for not doing this but I've made up for it a few times. If you mention how far you are he might even go easier on the price. As for the kids just mention how it will be there's ONE day. --just my suggestion but it works

1) So how much would he have given you in trade for the kids?
2) Only 70 miles? Are you saying that a 98% S&W 19-3 isn't worth a trip of a mere 70 miles??? You're killing US! (not to mention making me cry. My keyboard and I just can't stand it). You can NEVER have too many S&W's!

70 miles ONE way. Yeah, I know - and I thought about it. I am STILL thinking about it.

Kids are priceless. Actually taking a half day today to hit the range this afternoon. Early dismissal from school and the sun is shining.

Default Similar 19-3 dilemma in Florida

My local gun shop has a blued Model 19-3 with a 6" bbl, and comes with the original box and paperwork (no tools). He's asking $450, and it's probably ~95% (the previous owner painted the front and rear sights with fluorescent paint- nothing permanent though). I think it's in the s/n range of 3K80XXX (1972). I'm debating this one, too. I prefer P&R N-frames, but this is a nice piece. And yes, all 19-3s are pinned and recessed...they eliminated those with the 19-5 in 1982 (according to the Standard Guide).

You did OK walking away.
I usually find better deals and I am also in SE PA.
I picked up a mint 2.5" nickeled 19-4 a couple months ago for 350 at a local shop.
Wait till the Alentown Days Inn show and go there, I guess you were at the forks of Del show?

Did you say 19-3?

Bought it for $300 OTD (no box; no tools) from a local pawn. Looked unfired at the time. I fixed that

How about this 19-3 I got a few months back with box and papers. The dealer wanted $450 and I told him it wasn't worth $400 to me (even though it sure was). He said $399.95 and I took it!

$400 range is a great price for a 95% 19-3.
