Default Help Identify and Date

Hi, I am trying to help my father identify and date his S&W revolver.
It seems to be a near standard model 10, although it has a bull barrel.
Pinned 4" barrel
No diamonds on the grips.
Fixed sights.
.38 Special.
Serial # is D4700xx.
Any help appreciated very much!
Al

If you look on the frame under the barrel with the cylinder out, it should be stamped MOD 10-6, which was the model and engineering change number associated with the heavy barrel at that time.

Thanks for the help! It does have the 10-6 marking. Nice to have some good info on it. Appreciate the help from both of you!
