Price Check Model 12-2
I friend has a chance to pick up a model 12-2 2" for $285, He say's it's in very good condition, though I'm not sure exactly what that means. I'm pretty sure that's a decent price but would like to get conformation from you fellas.
Oh yea, The original grip have been replaced with rubbers.

Anywhere between an okay price to a real deal, depending on condition.

Condition is everything!! One thing to think about is the
frame on a M12-2 is thinner than a regular K frame. Should
you want to put wood K frame grips on your gun they want fit.
They did this back in the day to cut down on weight. Don

Enjoyment is position # 1 in this game. Once he has it, and it sits in safe area, will it be just to say I have one ?, or will there be an enjoyable use of it. Personally, again personally, no disrespect to anyone, I feel if there is something I am not using, have no use for, except to say that I have one, is in my mind not enjoyable. Again, to each their own, but just because something is available at an ok price, not going to be used, why not enjoy the money on an everyday item to be loved, cherished, and enjoyed. I love firearms, all things mechanical, Bikes, tools, boats, but do not have the need personally, (again me), to all their own, just have it because it is available.
To all be safe, enjoy the holiday season. Life is good in these tough economic times, buy what you truly truly love.

Thanks for the replies, I will pass on the information to my friend. He is not a collector but is looking for a carry piece to supplement his current Para 1911 style pistol. This would be his first S&W revolver if he gets it.

That's a pretty good price for an exceptional CCW gun, especially if it is RB. For some reason, S&W seems to have made a lot more SB 2" M12 than RB, which is the reverse of the other S&W 2" barrel carry guns.

Someone on here should address the issue of +P ammo in the Model 12 if it's going to be carried as a defense weapon. Don't ya think?

The M12 will be fine with +P ammo if it has a steel
cylinder. Some of the older M12's had aluminum cylinders
in them and you should not shoot anything in them. Don

I just talked to him and he was ready to buy the M12 until he saw a a minty Model 19-5. He bought that Model 19-5 4" instead of the model 12-2 2". He said he was out the door for just under $400.

Likely a better all around handgun choice.
