Here is a 66 (no dash) that I've had for around 30 years and has spend most of it's life in a dark corner of my safe.

Default New to me S&W 66-4

I don't know much about revolvers but I picked up this fine example about a week ago for what I consider a great price $425. It's my one and only revolver.

Not for long though...I think I got the bug...

Default This just in - M19-2 2.5"

I just got this home from the LGS. It took since Jan. 31 to convince the seller I was the appropriate owner of this treasure. He bought it new in 1968 and claims never to have fired it. I see no evidence of it. Original box, tools, papers, and numbered magnas. Wow! This photo is from cell phone. Better pictures later when I get the real camera fired up. I built a light box using instructions from elsewhere on the forum just for the occasion. Now ... do I shoot it?

Rest assured, the 19 is on the counter by my laptop for loving looks about every 30 seconds! This is a rare problem for me. My other guns are all in great condition, but definitely shootable. I'm thinking I need a 19-3 or -4 that's been broken in by somebody else. To make it worse, I'm going to look at a 19 no dash in 4" nickel tomorrow that is in nearly the same condition, but no box. Oh, the pain of this addiction.

I disagree. You should send it to me to spare you the temptation of soiling the cylinder. . Kidding aside, definitely post some additional pictures for us to drool over. Congrats.

Update: I am experimenting with my new light box set up and my old DSLR. So, here is first attempt at a better photo. Not sure if is actually better than the darn iPhone. This was shot at f14 - 28 seconds, early evening natural light. Anyway, this is a Combat Magnum thread, so here it is!

Excuse the bad cell phone pic's. My contribution, all shooters. 19 - 4, 66 - 1, 66 - 4 and my newest (last week) 66 ND 2 1/2", she needs some personal time from me, good bath, little polish and some new shoes (PC Magnas on order). And they all shoot like a dream, even make me look good.

Looks like I need another 19 or two, to balance it all out.

Here is a 19-5 that I rescued from many years of total neglect by it's previous owner. It isn't perfect but like most 19/66s, it sure is "purdy". Don't you think?

I picked up this 19-4 earlier this week, swapped on some Ahrends for the photos as it came wearing Houge's. I shot it yesterday and it is supberb, my first K frame .357, I have two L frame 686's and a 17-6, and 617. It's a real Cowboy gun, had to go for a ride on the Rocking Horse my wife made

So, my LGS obtained a 2.5" M19 that was badly rusted such that the cylinder lock was stuck and the gun couldn't be used. Long story made short, it proved to be such a difficult fix for the gunsmith that the gun was sent to S&W for repair. When it returns from S&W is will apparently be as good as new. So, I have several questions, since they'll give me first dibs on it and for sure I'll buy it:

1. Should I get S&W to give me a letter for it so I have it's overall history, including the major repair?

2. Dang, there is around $450 in cost already including acquisition and S&W repairs - what should I pay for it?

3. As long as they have it, should I let them engrave it some?

Thanks!

Letter likely wouldn't mention the repair at all. He may put it in the letter if you waited until after the repair was done, specifically asked for it, and sent copies of the repair paperwork from S&W but I don't know.
You could get the original repair paperwork from the shop. It will list exactly what was done and list parts replaced.

I would NOT have them engrave it.You will limit the amount of potential buyers if you ever decide to sell(never say never). The "engraving" they do now is done by a laser and a computer,It lacks the skill and beauty of the vintage engraved guns.If you are looking to make the gun special go for the master action job from the performance center.Just my .02.

Here's my "pair of aces." Both the Model 19 and the Model 66 have received full action jobs and carry my favorite Ahrends concealment finger-groove stocks. Couldn't ask for anything more!

Did it ship before the NYSP Model 13 designation came out in 1974 ?

The best part of French guns is most were NEVER fired, and only dropped once during surrender.

Here is my model 19-2. Don't think this gun was ever used much and was taken care of as the finish is about perfect as you can get for this old gun.

I enjoyed this thread so I thought I'd contribute my only picture of my new 19-4. I'm the third owner and believe it to be unfired. Excuse it's Dick Special companion.

It shipped in Feb, 74 so depends on when in '74 the 13 was introduced.

One of those "brother-in-law" deals that turned out so very nice. A late vintage 4-inch Nickel Model 19-4.

That 66-4 polished up like that with those combat grips is just gorgeous.

A large compensating barrel port is right in front of the sight.

Wow, what a great thread!
My only contribution is this 66 that I picked up locally a couple of years ago.
While it was dirty and dinged up, the action was incredible.
The TT and TH should have been a clue.
Upon removing the sideplate was surprised to see that the inner lockwork had been jeweled.
Set to work cleaning it up and tossed out nasty old set of rubbers that it came with:

I will post my 19-5 SN ANF30XX. This is the second time around for this one. I bought it, shot it, (shoots great) and then sold it to a good friend. But I missed not having it, so I negotiated to get it back from him. Keeping it this time!

Smile S&W 19 2.5"

Here is the only Mod. 19 that I have, a 19-3. When I got it there were no
Round butt target grips available, so I cut down and fit these grips with a filler in the bottom front. I don't remember what S&W they were from. I cut in the red front sight, added the WO rear sight, and the smooth combat trigger, and had a trigger job done on it. The wood case was the first of 20 some that I have built. It has a Bianchi 5B basket weave holster & Belt combo.

Default Model 19

My first Smith & Wesson revolver was a Model 19-3 4" that I bought as a young rookie officer on the PD. I virtually wore that revolver out shooting it in matches, qualifications and for fun. I let a deputy sheriff talk me out of it and I've regretted it ever since.

At the local gun show yesterday, I found what appears to be an un-fired Model 19-6 so I quickly corrected my mistake of some 30 years ago and brought it home. I hope that it shoots as well as my first Model 19.
