beneath the extractor star on the back of the cylinder is a series of numbers that appear to be randomly stamped. the gun is a 1975 model 57. i do not see these numbers on my other guns, any thoughts?

How do they compare to your serial number?
Sometimes they are on the star, sometimes on the cylinder.

I have a couple of Model 29s that are stamped similarly. I believe the numbers were stamped during the manufacturing process to aid in assembly or inspection. I know these are not assembly numbers, but were put there by a technician working on a particular gun (for his specific purpose).
