Model 36 date
Does anyone have a J close to 292XXX that can pin down a date for me? I make it to be ‘61 or ‘62, but something a little more firm would be greatly appreciated.

The SCSW4 shows #295000 to be 1962. That's as close as I can get. Your guess looks pretty good.

I'm guessing your gun's ship date is closer to summer '63.

And ... 268759 shipped in Jan. 1963, and 285148 in March 1963, which makes this production-wise a definite first-half-of-1963, I’d think.

Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping it was a ‘61, which would be a birth year gun for me. It’s a 3 inch SB and over on the east coast of Fl, which is where I’ll be working part of next week. I think I might still stop by and check it out. Here’s a picture of it.

To heck with "birth year."
If that gun is priced at a reasonable number, buy it! A 3" SB Model 36 is a sweet gun to have.

With only one photo to go by, and it makes the Chiefs appear to have a wee bit of muzzle and cylinder wear, I don't find the seller's asking price offensive for a flat latch and diamond grips. I'd liking try to whittle a little off the price, but if the numbers match and the mechanics are good I'd sure consider it.
